My newly purchased Bessa R2C (around 2 months old and 8 rolls through it) is exhibiting some strange shutter behavior.

The shutter frequently will not fire when the button is depressed normally. The metering lights come on but even if I press down all the way, the shutter doesn't fire.
If I pump the button a few times, the shutter fires. This doesn't happen all the time. If I shoot three or four consecutive frames, this will happen at least once.

When I tested with a cable release, it worked fine everytime.

When I apply some sideways pressure to the shutter button while pressing, it seems to work better.

Is there any easy solution to this problem? Will a soft release help or should I just send it back to get it looked at?

That happened to my R2A every once in a while when I had it. I figured out that if I advanced the film too quickly and returned the advance lever to the offset position (where my thumb rests behind the lever) it would likely happen at that point. If I took the pressure off the lever it would resume normal firing.

So basically, try making your winding more deliberate and see if that corrects it. It may or may not be the same problem, however, I'd not tolerate that on a 2 month old camera!

Thanks for the replies! Sending it back seems the only option here.
I will contact Mr. G and ask for his help.
I am seeing that only if I press the button with sideways (towards the camera) pressure, it works more or less consistently.

But that's definitely not something I want to live with!
