for a few weeks now my leica iiia's shutter has been overexposing by about a stop or more. i dont think i need new curtains or anything, and i cant find anyone advertising just a shutter tighten up (is it a tightening thing? i really dont know)
thanks in advance.

I use, for my Barnacks, John Maddox in South Carolina. Others swear by Youxin Ye, whom I believe is in Boston. John rebuilt my two Leica IIIc's, which I used to photograph in France with great results. You can reach John at:

L & J camera Repair.109 Royal Oak road, Greenville South Carolina 29607. (864) 297-6931.

If the shutter was running correctly and is now running slow, clearly its mechanism needs to be cleaned. As said, tightening screws is altogether the wrong thing to do.

Hardly possible this particular IIIa has lubricants gooing up. I sold it to Kip (Hi there!) and it was butter smooth. You can operate the advance knob with an extended forefinger, as fast as a rapidwinder.

Might be the tension in a spring is decreasing none the less, but I wouldn't doctor it myself. Surely there must be somebody in LA that can check and fix your IIIa.

Until recently I missed that camera, being as smooth and brassy as it is. When using an LTM lens, I'm shooting a Leotax now and I get by, but the IIIa is surely nice...!
