Hey!

The ones of you with a M8, how well do you feel that you can compensate for less-good-iso with using slower shutterspeed and exotic 0.95-1.1-1.2-lenses, compared to modern slr-iso? If you say that you lose 2-2.5 stops of light compared to a d700, can you earn 1-1.5 stops on shutterspeed and 1 stop on fancy lens-usage?

First of all I would characterize the M8's high-ISO look as "different" rather than "Less good". In many cases, I prefer it. It looks more like Tri-X and less like HDTV. (And I have a 20D and 5D to compare).

Second, ultra-fast lenses never did and never will replace fast film or sensitive sensors. Having just a couple inches worth of DOF doesn't work for every shot.

I don't own (and not likely to ever own) any super-speed Leica lenses. I have an older 50 Summilux, but that's the only one faster than f/2. I used the same lenses with film, ISO 400-1200 (pushed) and get nearly identical results with the M8.

Nothing can be judged from small online jpgs. I can get equally good shots with numerous lenses wide open.

I decided to to it the easy way, I ordered an used m8 + 40 2.0 summicron. I'll check it myself 🙂
