Sigma DP1 Fever!

Anyone having any feel for when the DP1 will be launched - in Aisa and in Europe !?

I am personally going to get one incl the viewfinder since this is for sure the closest you can get today to a "rangefinder" type of digital camera (and I am not counting the Leica which is totally overpriced and the Epson which is a dead end). I have seen all the comments on the f/4 etc - and yes you could always ask for something more but this is a APS-sized sensor of high quality in a very small body which is unique today. F/4 is OK with me and since it is digitla I will just gradully increase the ISO for the specific situations where f/4 is not fast enough....

Anyway - anyone knowing when it will be launched!?

Take what is probably the most advanced (and expensive at about £1000 new) creative compact ever: Minolta TC-1 28mm lens f3.5

If the sigma lens is as sharp as the Rokkor in the TC-1 I'd say f4 is not a big limitation at all.

"Pathetic"

Endustry - your comment on the spec for the new Sigma being "pathetic" is pretty silly I think. In the digital world you cannot look at the apparature alone but will have to look at the balance of the sensor size, lens, camera size and noice levels. As far as I understand it the Sigma is a major step forward compared with what is offered today and the combination of a APS-sized sensor in a camera body the size of a "point and shoot"-camera does not with todays lens technology allow for a faster lens. If the noice level at higher ISO-settings is OK however that´s fine since with digital you need to think differently with film when it come to ISO...

But - as allways the taste is different so you will probably not buy this one but I will. You will however not get a F/2 lens with a big sensor and a small camera body within the near future as far as I can understand. I would however not regard that as anything having to do with a "pathetic" spec.....

To shoot or not to shoot 28 mm is your choice. I want 21 mm f/1.8. I'll wait for it. Meantime I will do my work with Bessa

My fever has subsided in the last year, partly due to a long stay in the hospital but thats off topic. I am watching closely and still waiting to see what happens with this camera, it has been a long wait with many ups and downs and now to many new threads about the same thing, thus my choice to dig out this old one I started

We understand that many of you have relinquished hope of seeing Sigma's compact DP1 with DSLR-sized (APS-C not full-frame) sensor. For the rest of you, take note, Sigma just sprouted a new teaser page promising, "The worldwide debut, soon." For all of Sigma's claims that the DP1 is "a camera that belongs to no known category," we'll be sure to toss it under the "vaporware" tag if we don't see it say, PMA-soon as in tomorrow.
