fp L, 16mm in FF 1x1. Playing around with the new monochrome conversions in Iridient Developer that go straight to monochrome without demosaicing. These are the HDR raw process.

Does anyone here use their Fp-l for very long exposures?.
I tried my S1r with TS-E lenses for 6 minutes exposures with 16 stop nd filter and the results are appalling, loads of artefacts, extreme noise, generally rubbish.
The same setup with my Fp is smooth and grainless, particularly if I use iso 6 and a 10 stop nd instead.
I was wondering whether to keep the S1r for unfiltered daylight photography and get an Fp-l for the long exposure work. But only if it's as good as the Fp for really long exposures.
Fp-l's are really cheap nowadays but I still don't want to gamble on the results and find I have to sell it on.

I haven't done any beyond 30 or 40 seconds. At those times the images are extremely low noise. For example this is shot at ISO 6 and was 30 seconds. You should be able to see this in just about full quality.

You might need to click on it a few times to get it at full size.

I can take some long shots this weekend and see how it does. Do you want long exposures in daylight or at night?

Thanks, my problem was exposures over 5 minutes in daylight using nd filters.

That photo looks great, crisp but smooth too.

Very gray day today but I went out and got a few long exposures. These were with the fp L and the 50mm f1.4 DG DN and a JJC True Color variable ND which is a two part filter a 5 stop ND and a 1-5 stop variable ND filter. All shot at ISO 6. The variable ND was nice in being able to easily dial in long shots without going past the 500 second (non-bulb) limit at ISO 6.

320seconds, F10 and this was pushed 1.57 stops in post.

400 seconds, f5.6 no push on this

400 seconds, f4.5 1 stop push

*Love* how the fp L doesn't do a dark frame subtraction, even at this extended shutter times. Once the exposure ends it is ready to shoot again in about 18 seconds.

BTW, sorry for the damage to your wallet. 😉

Thank you for this. These are so much better than the S1r it's ridiculous.
Looks like I'm off to MAP Cameras...
I also love the lack of dark frame subtraction, it really doesn't need it.
By using iso 6 and a lighter nd filter I get the long exposure but can still use the screen. At 16 stop nd the rear screen goes fully dark and I need to frame and focus before attaching the nd filter for every frame.
Thanks again.

At iso6 and at 10stops on the ND I had no problem using the screen, shooting in aperture priority mode and no problems with AF or metering either. I pushed the few in post as I was spot metering to make sure I had all the highlights.
