Sigma - No plans to support FE (A7/A7r)

I just emailed Sigma about their plans to support the Sony FE mount on the A7 and A7r. Unfortunately, they are saying they have no plans to support the mount. So no beautiful and inexpensive glass that the M43 and Crop E-mount cameras enjoyed.

I'm a bit bummed, but I guess it just isn't financially advantageous, as they have no full-frame mirrorless cameras in their line-up, so the manufacturing and design aren't just floating around.

If there was a plan for full frame DP Merril 1,2,3 , lenses would be also sold with FE mount. Unfortunately Sigma doesn't seem to be motivated to create lenses for one mount only. Shame.

Ah, that's a shame. But it's also a reason for me to keep an APS-C E-mount body around for a long time to come, as the 30mm is one of my favorite lenses.

FE mount? Really?
There is a Sony e-mount and there are lenses covering the so-called full frame.
Who needs Sigma when there are so many excellent vintage lenses?

When Sony's main lens offerings are so expensive - as much or more than Zeiss's ZM lenses - humbler options are very welcome. Especially when they're as excellent optically as Sigma's.

Why do you think that the Sigma Corporation of America knows what Sigma in Japan is doing or considering? Also, if they had something in the pipeline, would you really expect them to tell you? There could be a lens next month or never, this response tells nothing.....

So, all we know now is there is no FE Sigma lens at the moment - oh, wait, we already knew that 😉

I think Sigma is taking a wait and see. Why commit to an unknown new platform when even Sony has a pie in the sky lens roadmap. Even the fixed 35 and 55 lenses aren't quite available and road map is a projection that goes all the way to 2015.

That A7 should have an "E" on the end for "experimental".

I hope you're right about that. It just seems to me that the only reason they produced those cheaper 19/30/60mm f/2.8 lenses is because that's what they had on the DP Merrill series...though that 60mm lens is somewhat of a mystery to me, as the DP3 had a 50mm 1:3 macro lens.

Anyway, you're probably right. Though, if they do enter the FE lens race, it might take a year or two, and then only if the camera sells like gangbusters, or they already are producing full-frame DP cameras, or even a full-frame mirrorless system.

Interesting. The Sigma 30 may just be the best all-around lens I have ever used. When considering its price, there is no competition.
