Comments? None, really; except when I'm shopping for some "new" piece of gear, then I hear either, "u-huh" or "oh, Gabriel..."

Other than that she gives me a lot of positive feedback, and constructive criticism when I need it.

Some very funny posts in this thread!

My SO is more of the quiet type; here is a typical discussion we usually have about once a week:

hoot: "Remember that camera I bought on the auction site for cheap with intentions to resell it? Well, it's such a lovely little tool that I think I'm going to keep it."
hoot's SO: [rolls eyes]
hoot: "Well, it's only for a few weeks..."

The oft-repeated one in my apartment is: "So how is that one different from the other 3 you have that look the same?"

I know the feeling, when I pointed out that my 35 and 50 'crons had the same look, the reply was "so why do you need both?". This from a woman with three spokeshaves and more knives and other small hand tools than you can shake a stick at (I should mention she's a bookbinder at this point to avoid the wrong conclusions).

and the piece de resistance:

4) "You know, the Leica is nice, but the E-1 (DSLR) looks really professional.

The sad thing is that she is perfectly right, nowadays it's just us amateurs that buy film leicas, the pros are almost all shooting with DSLRs.

I am lucky enough to have an SO who has absolutely no interest in cameras whatsoever. We have never, ever, talked about them and that is just fine with me! 🙂

Yeah, well, when the pros start drinking out of toilet bowls because it's the latest and greatest, I won't be dunking either.

Well... I am lucky!

When I finished refinishing my M3, my wife was quietly sitting to my right, reading. When I ended the job, I showed the camera to her and announced that I would put it up for sale.

"Why do that when you worked so much on it?" she said. "Why not keep it? It looks gorgeous."

I was a very happy chap that day! 🙂

George . . . you're sick. This is a sickness, and it's destroying your life. You need to think about this.

This comment was about my GAS issues.

This is not from a girlfriend, but actually from my mother.

The first time my SO saw my CZJ 180 on a Nikon F3:

No, I won't take any picture, that camera is scary...

She is more kind with my M2, and after seeing the results from some holiday photos:

The photo you takes made my face look fat... (50mm S'rcon DR, which didn't help :bang: )

Why are the background so unclear? You can't see anything, I am gonna get a digital camera, so I can see the background...[/I]

(No, woman; it's what's on a person neck that's make her face look fat! And no, I like my DOF just the way it is. And no no no, I am not wasting my hard-earn on a Digital P&S... :bang: )

We were seperated for a few months last year, when things got back on-track and she went to my apartment and find a boxful of cameras (she only saw 2 cameras and a few lens before that), she was pissed (in a slient kind of way), until I explain to her what had been given to me and what was brought on the year's end bonus...

Cheers

You are NOT going to set up a darkroom in my bathroom......

why don't we set it up PERMANENTLY in the Garage?

ah that would include a sink, running water and air conditioned 😀

Whenever a camera shows up in an old B&W film (e.g. 1940's) I often hear "Isn't that like your camera?" (It doesn't matter whether it is or not, just if it looks old).

Or, "Just how old is your newest camera? Do you have anything made within the last twenty years? Thirty years? Anything made since you were born?"

And, "Don't worry Dew, while you're looking for the light meter and getting everything set I'll take the picture." With her DigiCam... 🙂

"That camera looks like little kid's toy. I can't believe you cary that with you and show it to people" - about my Bessa R

"Why would you bother developing your own film, it is such a pain. Why don't you use digital like everyone else, you already have a perfectly nice digital camera" - about me developing 3 rolls of film and not touching my Nikon D70 in over 4 months.
