Signs of the Times

I always thought that's the way Americans celebrate XMas! Maybe I'm too unfluenced by the movies. 🙂

I can't help being attracted by Christmas lights, the bright colors & the effort people put into decorating sometimes amazes me... any outstanding examples from your area?

RML, that's beautiful!

Thanks!

I hate to say it was taken with a digital Kodak camera that I borrowed from my brother to take the shot of my Japanesque Gold M2. 🙂

It was a lucky shot. I didn't have ANY control over the camera in any way, couldn't focus it properly most of the time, the VF wasn't showing what I got on the shot, and the viewing display is too small to give any useful feedback. 10 shots I took; 2 or 3 were "properly exposed". The rest was blurry, out of focus or washed out by the (auto) flash. I hope I'll get better results with the Eos 300D I bought 2 days ago (and will probably receive days after Xmas). 🙂

Bill, I don't know about your area of NC but where I live in GA there are a lot of homes with enough lights to make a small city bright. I'm tempted to take a tripod and camera with color film and record a few.

Walker,

That's a fact, there are more than a couple of homes that can be seen from space here in this part of NC. I refer to them as "Santa Pimp" homes when they go totally over the top, but my wife loves 'em. We'll probably have to take a drive down the local 'Christmas Lane' this year.

And of course, some of the folks around here like their Christmas lights quite a bit - they never take them down.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

In case anybody wants to know what happens shortly after new year, have a look at this:

Philip Marlow shoots a Mamiya 6, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, by the way, for the past year I have been working on a similar project: I've been shooting ripped and torn umbrellas that have been thrown away in town. Might share some photos, but then again - everything was shot using Nikon SLR's or an Olympus Stylus Epic. So no RF 🙂

Jeroen,

made me think of those funny IKEA commercials about 'Olaf', the(probably made-up) Swedish holiday of the falling X-mas trees (you see a guy walking down a street, and behind him you see Christmas trees falling down from open windows)...
