Silk Strap from Lumiere

$149 for the silk strap is quite a lot of dough to spare....

However I think A&A makes their products to last. I have been using their leather strap and I think it'll be very hard to find any fault with it (except for possible length issues for the vertically gifted)

did you try translating the page with google or babel etc.???

the description on the Lumiere website clearly states that the strap is stitched using high strength nylon thread and then shrink wrap is placed over the stitches.
 
I would think the round rope would roll, almost as bad as the old silver metal "snake" chains (anybody remember them?)

If I were going to dally with making a soft strap, I'd look at a traditional Kumihimo Obijime (the braided silk belt around the Kimono) as a possible source.

The AA silk cord is crazy expensive but worth it 100%. No other strap is as comfortable or easy to use. The best part for me is that it stores well in my bag or when i take the camera off.

I figure I want to carry the camera all the time so anything I can do to make that easier or more comfortable is money well spent.

The OP showed a nice looking strap but the silk is what makes the AA strap good. I would not pay the $60 for a nylon strap.

I am sure the strap is wrapped in cord the the cord is covered with the shrink wrap to provide a cleaner look. I would not worry about that part of the strap at all.

For that price I'll get some caterpillars and make my own. With one of these straps and a Luigi case I'd have more money invested than in any of my cameras!
 
It appears that it's 5,250 Yen. So based on the the present USD-JPY FOREX conversion it comes to about US$ 57.30. It's good to round up to US$ 60.

Somebody's making a killing. That's about $1 worth of parachute cord and 25 cents worth of heat shrink tubing. At least the binding in the Gordy strap is a splice wrap which is one of the strongest connections for its use. Still, I'd go the $1 length of para cord, do the splice wrap myself, or use 20 lbs mono and do a neat nail knot. After being in the military for 25 years, I got OD and desert tan para cord out the wazoo.

Agreed. The A&A strap is the most comfortable I've ever used. MAP Camera in Tokyo was clearing their stock of silk A&A straps recently for 5,250 yen per strap.
 
it's just paracord (aka bluewater titan cord rated at 3100lbs) then wrapped in heavy duty stitching cord .... then heat shrink is applied around the stitching area... the hardest part is finding the key ring loops

If your handy you can make about 4 of these for around 15-25 dollars... I just made 3 neck straps plus 2 wrist straps and a bandolier style strap to outfit some of my cameras... i did a test on the stitched area and it ended up bending the key loop and did not break!!

but if you ask me, you should just buy gordy's strap... they are cheap, effective, customizable, and have a whole lot more style.... plus i would think they would be more durable... these ended up not being too comfortable

The Lumiere straps certainly look good and, according to my reading of the Google ""translation" anyway, they will make custom lengths.
