My M5s need red dots!
Sorry, can't help posting THIS THREAD from a well-known Photography Forum.
Kinda sad to see grown-ups going at each other like this.

Man! Wow, how sad! Reminds of this story where two guys were on their way to work. Each one kept passing the other until finally they almost crashed. After all the hand gesturing and swearing they pulled over on the side of the road to fight it out "like men". After both exited their partially tinted windowed vehicles, they realize they were neighbors and laughed it off.
I think if they saw each other, they would act different.

No, that thread would be run of the mill for Photo.net.

In fact, it is. I've seen threads like the W/NW turn into irate food fights for reasons that make me very suspect of their participants sanity: if a photo was taken with a Leica or not, whether someone is missed or not, about owning or "fondling" a camera...
I must admit to something: there's a strange feeling, a weird "schaadenfreude" about the whole thing. Even though that particular forum was never too friendly, some of the people there are genuinely helpful, and there's a number of gifted photographers too.
A bit too many... with large egos as well.
But this will be the last time I post one of their threads.
Back to this happy, friendly bunch.

Never say never. There could be good reasons why you might want to post something over there in the future. You might think of exactly the right response to a particular comment or thread. Don't suppress it.
Still, many of the people over there are paranoid lunatics.

Or you may just want to post a reply to stir things up over there!

During my absence, my vacation in Mongolia, I haven't read any newspaper, seen any news, or listened to the radio. I completely missed the US elections, the murder on film maker Theo van Gogh here in Holland (and the subsequent chaos and disorder), and the demise of Arafat.
You can't imagine how calm and relaxed I was when I returned home.
And I've promised myself to no longer read newspapers, see the news or listen to the news on the radio. It's hard to keep my promise (news is everywhere) but sofar I'm managing. The only news I'm interested in is of a non-political, non-religious, non-economical nature. So, talk all you can about RF cameras. That way I at least have something to read.

Well... I meant not to post one of those food-fight threads again. If there's something informative, useful and important, I'll link it, of course.
I remember the one and only political thread here in this forum: a model of civility that's rare in this day and age... although probably Jorge and Joe must have been pretty much on edge looking at it!
There's another place where tempers really flare: the Leica Customers Forum, sponsored by Leica. It's a pity, because, like here, the posters are pretty international. There are a few instances of legitimely good people, though. About a year ago, when I expressed interest on a Leica SF20 flash, one poster, Bill Palmer I believe, sent me an e-mail to tell me the London Camera Exchange had them for sale at a very low price... and added the e-mail address of the place. I ended up dealing with a guy, Robin, very helpful and agreable, who sold me one for the lowest price this side of the Atlantic: $126, with shipping.
Another thing one appreciates after visiting those forums: a good moderator!
