Hello friends.

I need your help,on this one, I have a Leica M2 silver, and a Leica M6, the guy who sold the M6 to me from Sweden, said that it was a model called PANDA, because the rewind, the speed control and the film advance lever are black, have any one knows about this ?. The othe questios is this,I am thinking about buying a black top and a black base plate for my M2,to make it black, any drawbacks to this ?. any advice will be greatly appreciated.

thank you jorgef2002 :bang:

The way I understand it is that (I believe it was 1992) Leica had temporarily ran out of silver chrome parts for the M6 production. The end result was a temporary run of Pandas (so called). And they carry a small price premium.

IMO they're not worth it as the serial numbers on Pandas produced by Leica are unrecorded and anyone can produce one him or herself by replacing these same parts.

As to replacing the top and base of your M2, you will also need to get the other BP parts for the camera or you'll end up with an "anti-Panda" - this can get expensive and the camera's serial number will no longer be on the topcover.

If you really want a BP M2 that bad, then just send it off to Shintaro. It would likely be less expensive that way.
