Hi everyone,

I'm new to scanning and I just got an Epson V750 with Silverfast 8 SE. Right now scanning is taking forever as I have to individually go in and tweak the settings before I run the batch scan, which does each frame at a time. Do you guys have suggestions as to how I can speed up this tedious process? What file format should I save at (and at what quality, etc), should I use Negafix?

Thanks,
David

Any other comments would be greatly appreciated in just speeding up the scan workflow.

I'm new too with silverfast 8 se and V700.
I' haven't still understood how to save some preferences (USM settings, destination folder, ecc...) that are always the same for me...
everytime I re-open silverfast every setting goes to default

I save my scans in tiff, then import in lightroom.

After scanning 244 slides last week in 3 evenings and a saturday morning I can feel your pain. I was using Silverfast 6.6 but I had to change the settings for each frame as well. I bet there is a way to save settings with the save frame as option, but I'm not quite sure how that works. I wish there was a way to set the defaults on the global settings like the dpi settings and the sharpening settings, and the bit rate.

I did all my scanning at 6400 dpi with no sharpening and at 48 bit. I had the change these for every frame and after a while it just became tedious. I think those setting should stay once you set them, but I am not sure how.

There is a Silverfast forum where there seems to be a lot of answers to technical issues. The only problem is your posts have to be reveiwd by an administrator and sometimes it takes days for your own post to show up. That's pretty frustrating when your hoping for a quick turn around answer.

Why not scan with the minimum possible adjustments? The idea into make a digital negative (or transparency) from the analog source. Just make sure the histogram is optimized (exosure) and the negatives' color cast is removed.

Then you can adjust the image to suit your needs during post processing.

Thanks, but any tips on working with lightroom as well? I am still trying to figure out how lightroom and photoshop can be used together.

An educated guess: you're running Windoze 7? I'm also guessing you're using Silverfast via Photoshop. Run as Admin. Set the preferences as you'd like. Quit SF. Then quit Photoshop. Then start up again. Your preferences should be saved.

Another hint: when having a technical question, specify your operating system and how you're running the program.

I'm running Lion as well as Windows 7. I didn't even know you can run SilverFast via Photoshop (CS5). I'm running SF as a standalone to get my JPEG/TIFF.
