Other Areas Singapore and Malaysia RF Club

Peter, I just got my 28mm:Offline book, very nicely done. Dare I say that the final print quality surpasses that of the RFF book.. I don't know why, considering the publisher of both books are the same. Like the butt shot of your elephant.

As for our local project, I know it's an idea that's inspired you for a while now. Perhaps we should really get our hands dirty on it and give it a get go. Personally, I would like to work on the homeless and proverty issues that exist here in Singapore. To that end, I've been trying to work on an arrangement to do a shoot in the residential areas of Chinatown and the likes. Still early days yet.

David, I think it should be a panel of editors working through the submissions.

Mental health issues....much ignored, alot of suffering.
How about it? when I get back I'll arrange for a whole lot of us (including dryonks) to join volunteers who take the woodbridge patients out to the beach or flying kites?
Interested anyone?

Nick

I'm in! Can check out Lavender, near the army market. I distributed food over there once to the residents. They all live in cramp 1 room flats rented from the govt with dark, cluttered corridors...

As Glenn pointed out to me, Bob Lee from the Lianhe Zaobao recently published a book "One Room Flat" which features a collection of shots from his exhibition of the same name. It centers on the residents of Chinatown and other parts. It's available at Riceball, will be checking it out later this week.

Hi Terence, you got the book earlier than me! Cannot wait to see it and since the print quality is better, it should be quite a presentation! Maybe LuLu has changed their printer? As for the project I suggest that we wait for Nick to come home, not too far now I guess? As for topics, the poor and homeless is always a worthy topic as the book could highlight their plight and raise awareness. In fact, the book could be divided into 2 main parts, Singapore and Malaysia's homeless and poor. I have a feeling the resulting work will be remarkably similar. Poverty is a universal phenomenon, regardless of nationality and race!

Glad that you like the elephant butt shot! Quite an amusing one I must say so myself! :p

Got a good deal on black paint and chrome 90 summicrons apo asph from our friend in Hong Kong. Drop me an email if you're interested and see if we can get a combined order going for Sept.

For that matter, if you're keen on anything else, drop me an email too.

Cheers

From our mini meeting this morning... obviously more interested in food than rangefinders.

I'll be ordering from our friendly Hong Kong dealer soon, for delivery in mid Sept. If anyone would like to tag on any Leica or CV gear, please email me. Would like to have all orders in by Aug 30.

Cheers,

T

Hello!

Hello!

Hi Guys!

Nice meeting up with you guys today!

I think Peter's idea of publishing a book is brilliant.

Terence - the cams are ok. The pics from both cams came out sharp and clear. I think...(because I D/O - never print...should have at least got an index print, but skipped my mind.) Wait till more rolls go through them. But the negatives look good.

David - let me know how good the Skopa 35mm is - I am seriously tempted, and might just tag along with Terence's september buy.

Have been an SLR user all along, so this move is quite a big jump for me - thanks for all the guidance and I do look forward to learning more from you guys!

Cheers,
-> Tim.

Welcome on board Tim, glad you finally registered. With the cost of printing contact sheets, you might as well scan the roll, should come out to be about the same or slightly cheaper. Fyi, David has the 28mm, not 35mm.

Welcome on board Tim! :) Have fun with your new equipment and I must warn you that RF photography is very addictive and you will suffer from frequent gas attack! Now I am struggling with my inner demon whether to buy a new lens, a new body or both! I should not have touched the Leicas yesterday! :p Glenn, please call me as I have a cunning idea to help you to get a new camera and lens!

What? Peter touched a Leica? (Terence what have you been up to?)
Once you've touched it, it will linger in your mind....
Give in... give in to the dark side.... ;-)

The problem is not only I have touched one but also shot a few frames with it! I could feel the dark side coursing through my neurons, burning the synapses! The dark side is powerful indeed but I must fight it and remain faithful to my Voigtlander heritage! :p By the way Nick, you are coming home soon? The book project is waiting for you! :D
