Talk about the concept of masculinity. I am in a profession that is heavily dominated by the female gender. I am the only guy in the nurse clinician department. Just imagine the feminist jokes that I have to endure on a daily basis! How do you feel if your female colleague remarked during lunch that men do not grow up but they grow old? How about the lau lau matron that has this nasty habit of addressing me during nurse managers meeting as boy boy? "Is boy boy here?" 🙁 Just remembered the song by Eminem, "Will the real boy boy please stand up, please stand up!" That is my ultimate nightmare! 😱

Hi Ming, think you need to get the seals replaced, bit of light leak in the frames.

Hi Ming. Apparently Dave (greyhoundman) wrote to me with the same explanation about the botched scan job, which explains why the images turned out the way they did.

Sorry, it just seemed characteristic of a light leak which is why I posted my simple remark. Hope I didn't offend you Dave. Not doubting your rep as a responsible seller who always checks his items carefully before shipping out.

In a way, I think your female colleagues are quite right. I think we have a tendency to still play with toys, be it cars, cameras, hifi, etc.

I would enjoy those terms of endearment hurled unto you!

I scan my film too. If it is C41 negs, and I'm lazy, I'll ask Fotohub to do a roll scan. I scan all my HP5 and slides (very rare now) myself on a Coolscan 4000 which I bought many years ago.

Dust is a real problem scanning traditional BW but is fine for all the rest as there is ICE. But it is always a real pain as a scan, with all the checking of focus, clearing of dust, flattening of film would take me as least 15min a piece. Processing it takes another 5-10 min.

I like the time spent though, it makes me look at my images more, and as it takes a lot of effort, makes me more selective too. All these, I think, improves my photography.

Yesterday, I attended a course, and my course instructor was going around asking if everyone has a camera. When I commented I am using film cameras, he said "You would need a camera for my next course, try to borrow one". Nowadays, it seems that film cameras are no longer considered cameras.

What kind of a photography teacher is he?!

Or are you sure you didon't sign up for the digital photography class?! 😛

Hi folks, I'm David in KL & almost exclusively a film user too, although there's a Canon 5MP Ixus somewhere in the house. I hate shutter lag! Anyway glad to see there's a S'pore-M'sia club. I haven't yet posted any images on the RFF- would appreciate critique when I do. Cheers!

Welcome David! Good to see more friends from the region here in this little thread. What RF are you using at the moment? Do keep the photos coming! 🙂

Thankyou Peter. Just tried uploading a profile pic but it doesn't appear. Anyway my take everywhere (except shower) RF is a IIIc with collapsible 5cm Summicron, usually loaded with Portra NC 400 or BW400CN. Also carry an ageing Weston Euromaster.

Excellent classic gear! So I presume you scan your negatives yourself too?

Hi Peter, yes I scan the negs on a Coolscan 5000 (belongs to my uni AV unit), to an ancient Powerbook G3; I'm climbing a steep scanning-learning curve. Photoshop 7 post-processing is equally steep. At the end of the year I hope to upgrade the Mac or get a scanner, finances permitting. Cathay Photo in Peninsular Plaza!

Steep is the learning curve but the rewards are great! Both artistically and emotionally. You could try a Minolta SC IV. I use one and it is very easy to use. I post process with PS 7 to remove the dust and to control the contrast.

Welcome to RFF David!

Its good to see another fellow Malaysian! Haha though I'm not born Malaysian, I think I've lived here long enough to be considered one.
Very nice gear you are carrying, and I like the shot of Vince you have. Am liking the contrast!

Thanks Suzums (Suzie?). That shot was taken with my other camera, a battered M2 with a new(ish) 35 1.4 Asph, which I got when working in the UK (& earning a bit more!). Your gallery is great- "unforced" "spontaneous" come to mind.

Hi David, like the tonality of your Venice shot. It gives a sense of loneliness and desolation with the crumbling stoneworks and absence of people. As for your duplicate image in the gallery, just click on the duplicated shot you will see a delete image box below the enlarged image.

Hey Peter, any shots to show from the morning spent in the CCK farm and cemetary?

I have scanned it but I have yet to edit. Too busy with the new job you see. How are you?

Thank you for your kind comment!
