I just posted a photo of the Raffles Long Bar on another thread and it reminded me that I visited Singapore a few years ago and thought it could be interesting to start a thread providing an opportunity to post photos of the city state. Some of mine. Though I have to say it was not really a photography kind of trip (more a family xmas one) so most images are more just holiday snaps). Singapore is an exceedingly clean, ordered and in many ways pretty city and is undoubtedly desirable to live in. From a photographer's viewpoint it is a little too clinically clean and ordered though and one has to really search for images that are more than holiday shots. I am sure they are there but did not have the chance to do it myself on this trip.

Sure, your pics present the typical touristic version of Singapore. Not the areas where most Singaporeans actually live. There are some Singaporeans contributing
to RFF. Perhaps they could provide an alternative take on their city. My modest contribution:

Beautiful photos. I feel like I'm there. I was in Singapore off and on between 1979-1988; and again between 2015-2017.

I still remember the pedal rickshaws and 80's style Chinese stores. Orchard and Scotts was the majore tourist area. The Merlion was out of the way. I still remember the first McDonalds that opened there as well. I was a kid so that was a momentous day.

I was in Singapore in 2011 and went to a delicious Sunday buffet at Raffles. Did I say it was delicious? 😀

Here are just a few images I captured of the many dishes of food available at the buffet. Unfortunately, they are a little blurry because I didn't increase the ISO enough and the shutter speed was too slow.

A few more random holiday snaps from Singapore.

I do wish I had made time for street photos though. Truth is I was feeling a bit unwell during the trip so was lacking energy to go walking in Singapore's December heat. On the second to final day we had a rather rich (and oh so delicious) meal of murtabak which I had not eaten for many years. we had it at a place called Zam Zam which was recommended by the concierge and I understand to be well known to Singaporeans for its very good Malaysian and halal food (it is situated right across the road from a large mosque). For those who know this delightful stuff (a savory stuffed crepe) you will know that it is full of ghee and other oils. Fat means flavor they say and so it is with murtabak. Long story short its richness set off what seems to have been a simmering case of pancreatitis which is probably why I was feeling poorly before then. Not Singapore's fault of course - though I should say that everyone in Singapore is a foody! Or so it seems. It is a place that really takes good food seriously and is also super serious about hygiene in food stalls and restaurants. At least when I got home it meant I was then able to get a definite diagnosis and an explanation of why my health had not been all that brilliant for quite a few months. All good now - though I have to avoid rich food. Darn! Though I can once more get into pants that I could have worn when I was about 30 y.o. (Always look on the bright side of life as Monty Python sagely advised.)

Sorry to hear about your health woes.
If you have another chance to come back to Singapore, you should venture beyond the city center for a better glimpse of the city state.
