I just bought my first rangefinder a Canon IVSB with an f1.8 50 mm lens. A couple of questions for those of you with a lot mre expereince. First what size firters does this lens use? I think it is the odd sized 40mm. If so does anyone know a source for them?
Second what size is the lens cap for this lens. I assume it is 43 mm.
Third what is the "official" thread size for the screw type lens? I bought a 39 mm cap for the body, but have seen the lenses referrred to as 42 or 43 mm? Also do the screw type Lieca lense fit this body?

The 50/1.8 takes 40mm filters and the outside edge takes 42mm accessories. I know because I'm looking for a 42mm to series VI adaptor to use with my 50/1.8. The IVSb is a very nice little camera, I certainly enjoy using mine.
The thread on the body is the standard M39 mount as developed by Leica and any LTM lens will fit the IVSb. I've used a Jupiter 12, Jupiter 8, Industar 61 & 135/4.5 Steinheil on mine as well as my one (so far) Canon lens.

Here's some 40mm filters: http://www.filterfind.net/clearspecials.htm?63,25. I have a set of "Walz for Canon" 40mm filters for b&w film. I just saw a 40mm to Series 6 screw-in adapter on ebay a day or two ago. Another Series 6 alternative is to buy the 'square' Canon shade for 50 and 35 Serenar lenses. Use the slip-on ring with Series 6 filters and a more appealing hood. Series filters are the best kept old equipment secret ever.
