It is ridiculous, and for a first post too!

All camera boxes are the same size, more or less.

Ok. English is not my native language, let's try restate

What is dimensions of ZI's package box ?

There's a guy round here (back alley) who has some Zeiss Ikon boxes. He's a helpful sort and I'm sure he'll tell you want you need to know.

Offhand I'd say half a sheet of Christmas wrapping paper should be enough for your 'surprise'.

Depends on how much 'more or less' matters, e.g. a Leica box is a different size & shape from a Zeiss box. Unfortunately I'm not at home or I could check.

One good reason to ask might be to see if it will go inside a standard, fixed-rate mailing/courier box, or what size of shipping box might be needed.

Cheers,

R.

I can see that.

So if the Leica box will fit into a DHL box but the Zeiss box won't fit the guy will choose the Leica over the Zeiss?

I decide based on the color of the box and whether the words are big enough. Oh yeah and does it have pretty pictures on it?:D

I don't see why you're giving a new member such a hard time. He asked a straightforward question, even acknowledging that it might sound silly without knowing his reason for asking. ClaremontPhoto, your first response was rude and useless.

alart, I think you'll find other members here typically more welcoming. Please keep posting.

Dear Jon,

...or perhaps he has one on order, and needs to send it somewhere.

Actually, does it matter?

It's a fair and easily answered question, if odd at first sight, and one I'd have been happy to answer had I been at home. Then, I have to admit, I'd have asked why he needed to know...

Cheers,

R.

i can measure when i get home, if you still need the info.

is this to determine shipping costs?

and welcome to the forum.

No. it doesn't matter why he asked. If we knew his reason, it might not be dumb, but in fact a brilliant question. Courtesy dictates a respectcful answere. A senior moment has robbed me of the name of the actor or the movie, but to quote Hollywood, "whether a questions is dumb or not depends on where you are standing when you ask it." Maybe it was referring to the Native American bit of wisdom about not judging someone until you have spent a day walking in their mocasins, or maybe not? Anyway, welcome to the newbie and don't let this little tif keep you from participating here. Ninty-eight percent of the time, the people here are friendly and helpful. :)

You're welcome indeed alart.

I hope you're very happy with your box dimensions.

We were discussing a Leica M3 (?) box just the other day, and a guy here (CameraQuest) is trying to selling a Nikon RF box.

If you decide not to get the Zeiss Ikon, and get the Voigtlander instead I'll gladly measure a box for you.

Thank you all of you for warm welcome !

Frankly speaking I'm not a new here. At least already 1 year I'm in read-only mode.

The reason why I break the silence is:
I asked my friend to bring the ZI from U.K. to Russia and first question what he asked was :"How big the box ?" I started looking in I-net and can't find any info about it and now I'm here :).

R2-D2 thank you for sizing!

May be, you need a lens, too: 11,7 x 7,9 x 10,3 cm (Biogon 2/35 or Planar 2/50)

and the appropriate shade: 10 x 8 x 3,5cm

You have lost me there in that quote.

I am sorry to all that find my typos distracting. I proof my posts several times and still one or two get through. As for as the quote goes, what might seem as a dumb question to a Maine backwoodsman might be reasonable to a New Orleans lawyer and vice versa. It is not the question that is silly or dumb, but the time and place in which it is asked. Remember Bill Ingall's song, "Here's your sign"?

I was just really bored yesterday, sitting here in my chair and I wanted to point out that we each have different backgrounds and therefore different perspectives on how we view things. Like the newbie poster, I too lurked here for many, many months before I "joined". What impressed me about Rangefinderforum was how friendly and helpful the members were. After forty plus years (in manufacturing) doing battle with management, who, at times, seemed committed making just doing my job as onerious as possible, this forum has become the intellectual coffee shop that I can't go too (because I live out in the boonies).

Whether I fouled or not, I meant no harm.

You proof several times and still post 'onerious'?
