Size

Using the LARGE format (3:2) and FINE seems to be creating very big files, well over 10 MB/picture. Compared with my Nikon D80 and D90 this is big. Going down to M creates more, to me, normal sizes...

Any comments on this - what are people using, any reason to go for the L or is M just as good.

Also - I take it that the 3:2 is the format most resembling the old film format - what are people using: 3:2 or 16:9?

10mb isn't that big by today's standards. I cannot see using anything but the highest quality a camera offers. Storage is cheap and so are SD Cards.

My 3:2 fine jpegs out of the X100 are generally between 4 and 4.25 MB - this is what I expect - same as my D700. I don't know why yours would be so big.

The raw (RAF) files are big at about 19 MB - bigger than NEFs or DNGs at around 10 MB for the same resolution.

I don't know if anyone has said why the raw files are so big.

DavidX - thanks for comments - went back and revisted the sizes and something must have been wrong with the first ones being around 10 -- I now have the same as you, around 4 MB, which was what I expected and which is perfect. Odd that I got some around 10!?
