Does anybody know why the skopar snapshot 25 f/4 has been discontinued?
It seems to be a quite good lens, although not rangefinder-coupled. Are CV maybe planning to produce a new model coupled?
Any info appreciated.

David

No rangefinder coupling = no close focusing accuracy. So I've heard from some people who used it.

But I'm glad my 25 / 4 is now 'limited edition'. I only use it for street shooting anyway.

50 2.0 Heliar will be available seperately from Gandy. It's a great looking lens. I may be better off searching for an Elmar. It'll be cheaper...that's for sure.

I've never had a problem focusing my 25/4 despite the lack of RF coupling. I actually find it a super-quick lens to use because I'm usually pre-focused when I'm on the street.

I'm sad to hear that it's discontinued unless it's going to be replaced with a version more like their newer offerings (35/2.5 Pancake II, 40/1.4 Nokton, 50/2 Heliar).

The 25/4 has had a great run -- it was, along with the 15, the first of all the Cosina Voigtlander lenses. Mine sits more or less permanently on my L.

But Steve states rather unequivocally above that the 50/2 Heliar will be available separately. That is the first I've heard of that -- I doubt Stephen Gandy would be willing to make that statement. (I do hope it's true, though.)

My Bessa L & 25/4 are now a "classic" :p

I just popped over to the CQ site, no mention that the CV 25 has been discontinued, or I didn't see it.

I have to start reading the CVUG again.

I just went and looked at the CQ Pricing page, the "news" hasn't made it's way there yet.

As for what replaces it, the CV 21 does a good job too and it is coupled when for those times that you want it to be. When ever I hear something is discontinued my immediate thought is that I need one! But I have the 21. It is wider, but still will do the trick for when I want to go wider than 28.

With the Bessa-L out of production, and given the RF coupled 21mm and 28mm alternatives, it makes sense to discontinue the CV25. There are so many lenses in the line-up now, that some cleanup is defendable. The CV25 remains a wonderful lens though..

Take a look at Robert White or the cosina.co.jp web site, but you probably need a babel fish and some imagination to interpret it.

"along with the Bessa-T and 75/2.5 SL as being discontinued."

I'm pleased I got my 75 when I did, a truely astonishing lens for the money. The news about the 25 on its way out has been around for some tdime. Robert White in the UK has run out of black ones a while back.

I could be tempted though to go for a 25 but like others here I have the 28 Skopar and the 21 (and the 15), just don't know when I would find the time to use it.

A triple "Cheerio" to the great petite Snapshot-Skopar 4/25mm. It was one of two lenses of the inititial Voigtlaender program for the Bessa-L (therefore without rangefinder coupling) back in 1999 and its great performance for a reasonable price had a great deal on its name and success!

Not only this lens was worth to carry its famous name Voigtlander. It has added to its honor...

Sorry but I just never got to love my 25mm skopar, perhaps the fact that I have the 21 and 28 as well means that I hardly ever use it. could also be that my two Bessas , an R2 and a T both have r/f and that the lens is better suited to the Bessa L. Just had a thought, tried it on the Fed Zaria, which it fits nicely. Perhaps Iwill give it a try there!

I had one for a few weeks earlier this year, but decided I'd really prefer a 28 because my M6 had framelines. I wouldn't mind another 25, but I'm trying hard to keep the RF kit small...
