Slightly loose Ultron 35..

Hi!

Bought a used Ultron 35 in February, but it hasn't seen much use until today, as my M3 has been away for a long time. Seems fine optically (I'm off to shoot it in a minute), but there is some play in the mechanical connection between the mount and the all moving focusing group. That is, I can hold the lens by the focusing and aperture rings, and be able to move the first a few fractions of a millimeter in relation to the other both along the movement of the rings, and from side to side.
Nothing to be worried about, I'm sure, I just wondered if anyone knew of a screw to tighten or something similar.. 🙂

I did have some strange play in my Ultron, but it is gone now. Did nothing about it other than use. Strange but no worries.

I picked up a used Ultron 35 earlier this year, and it became very loose on the
first outing. A search of photo.net yielded instructions on how to access the
three very small screws that hold the two halves of the body together. It is a
little involved, but does not involve taking any of the lens elements apart. If you
think this is the problem, you may want to deal with it sooner or later. I
know of someone who had their Ultron come completely apart on them.
I followed the instructions and so far so good - feels very solid now. All you need
is a rubber stopper of the right diameter to spin off the ring on the front of
the lens, and some very small screwdrivers. Of course, if you think this might
damage your lens in any way, and it's not a big problem at the moment, you
can wait and if it loosens further send it into a repair specialist.

Thanks for the good suggestions. I'll probably wait and see if it gets worse quickly or not, I have some experience dismanteling and reassembling, but I tend to mess up minor things at times, so I guess I'll be visited by mr. Procrastination this time..

Yay! I did it!

Following the instructions found in this thread closely, I avoided heartbreak and heart attacks, with no other tools than 5" of electricians tape and a 35mm film box cap (the grey, soft, Tri-Xy kind) for unscrewing the name/spec ring and a small (by far not the smallest in my jewellers screwdriver kit) phillips head for disassembly, adjustment and reassembly.

What pushed me over the edge was scanning two of my earlier shots combined with the lens going so wobbly on my last shot that I put it back in the bag on two occasions when meaning to use it. Now it feels almost completely tight (if it comes loose again, I'll glue the screws in question), and using it is a delight.
