SLR Conker knockout (round two)
So, having established the four contenders, I would ask the beautiful Samantha to select the balls for the semi-final draw
so No4 (F3) will play ...
No1 (F1) ....... two favourites drawn together there
and No2 (OM1) will play
No3 (SL)
therefore
Nikon F3 v Canon F1
Oly OM1 v Leica SL
Samantha having made the draw, is just popping off to enjoy a regional delicacy, a portion of local winkles in cider... before tomorrow's climax to the competition.
Pleases place your bets gentleman

Due to its weight and solidity, the F3 excels as an impromptu flail. (I'm speaking of a bestrapped F3, of course).

voting is getting tougher

I had to go F3, only because Canon dumped FD.

I am so tempted to select the null choice. But actually I won't vote in this one, because I am unfamiliar with two of the cameras. But when it's the Oly vs the Nikon ... watch out!

Too late sir, Chris Platt beat us both to it

Having used both the F1 and F3, I'll give it to the Canon F1. As tough as the F3 is, that Canon F1 is a brick. The OM1 and SL really aren't a contest. The SL is the heavy weight against a real lightweight. The SL would be the clear winner.

The best camera is one that still works!
When Maitani designed the OM he was given the target of a maximum weight and a set dimension ... he certainly wasn't thinking of 'conkers!'
This is so cruel ... the OM is far too refined to be included here ... please re-consider your choices ... I beg you!

Hmm, I have a Leicaflex SL sitting in front of me and it seems pretty clear that it would demolish an OM-1 without much difficulty. The OMs are fantastic cameras.....but not such obvious bludgeons.

And I read about an American Nikon repair guy (years and years ago) who used a motorized Nikon F to hammer in nails with. Just to prove his point of durability and build quality.
My daughter would not forgive me for doing that to her OM1. Nope!

Sorry ,Ive voted thinking that the conker thing was an analogy for best camera. My votes went for the canon f1 and the olympus om1 if you want to discount them. However the canon as a conker will destroy anything and I think the olympus could be the light weight ninja manouvering quickly for the knockout so on reflection my votes should stand.

I freely admit that my F3 was hardened with an MD-4 with batteries, and equipped with a 400/2.8 at the time. No contest!

I'm with Pickett: I've used both the F-1 and F3 extensively, and while the F3 is the proverbial Tough Mother, a literal smackdown with the F-1 might scramble its more electronically-embellished mind. Mind you, this is a close call.
OM vs. Leicaflex? I wouldn't quite call this Bambi vs. Godzilla, but it's close, baby, scary close (and not "close" as in F-1 vs. F3!).

Looking at the polls and comparing them to the comments, it would seem there been more than a few misunderstandings as to the nature of the game of conkers. Remember folks, this is not a beauty contest, the camera most able of smashing their competitor to smithereens wins. I voted Canon and Leica, in line with most comments, whereas both are loosing in the polls (ATPIT).

Also, it's not about which camera is "better": this is just fun speculation about which camera would best survive being thrown against one other, demoiltion-derby style. Of course, I happen to like most all the cameras brought forth in this little contest, and have used most of them.Looking at the polls and comparing them to the comments, it would seem there been more than a few misunderstandings as to the nature of the game of conkers. (Speaking of demolition derbys: I haven't witnessed one in a dog's age. It's the only form of uniquely American mindless entertainment I actually liked, given its brutal honesty about its mindlessness, versus, say, "pro" wrestling, monster-truck exhibitions et al.)
Yeah, but there's that fiery bad-breath problem he's got...Bambi is a lot faster, Godzilla has to catch her!

Attach a motor to the bottom of an SL, attach a Telyt to the front and you have a great tool for knocking fence posts into the ground, wet or dry...
No contest
