So I guess this isnt the "right" forum to ask but I figured a lot of RFFers understand more about photographic equipment than I do, even flashes.
This night my flash got stomped to bits by 300 crazy Dillinger Escape Plan fans. That's a very heavy and technical hardcore/metal band. I was in the crowd up front with my Canon EOS 500 and Zenitar 16 mm superwide when the external flash, cheap 540EZ, fell from the hotshoe down to the floor...
A minute later I see a guy picking up a curcuitboard from the floor...
So, I need a new flash.
This is my "crazy shows"-equipment so It doesnt have to be the very best and it can not be very expensive. I just want to get my photos.
I shoot mainly ISO 100 and 400 b/w film, so I dont care about color temps and such.
The ideal would be a flash that support Canon TTL, but that may be to much to ask.
A really good Auto flash might work just as well.
This time I am thinking about something smaller.
Ive been looking at some smal slave flashes, Sunpak DS-20, Nissin Speedlite Ds-1 and a few metz variants (a bit pricy)
Is this a good Idea? I figure it would be nice to have the Camera in one hand and the flash in the other.. Or will the oncamera flash just make all my images seem double exposed? Will the slave flash trigger on any stage lightning and so on?
Oh and I might have to epoxy glue it to the hot shoe for safety too.
All help is welcome
