Smallest 50?

Summicron-C, although a 40 normal as opposed to a 50 normal.

The Canon 50/1.5 is small for a fast lens.

Very small, fast when you need it , easily available , standard filters.

The only lens that is plentyful or can even be found on the bay here in Germany is the J-8, others, not so much.
I can get the Summarit 2.4 but not in chrome, I am also not really comfortable with a Rokkor on an M, this seems to be quite difficult.
The little 3.5 Heliars look wrong if I'm honest.
I will stick to my Summarit for now and maybe I can find a decent Color Skopar some day.

I agree. If 40mm makes sense, that's a great option.

When I want a compact camera, I enjoy my Summarit-M f/2.5

The non-collapsible Vintage Line version of the 50mm f3.5 Heliar should be worth looking into, at least the Nikon S-mount version is super tiny.

I have that lens albeit in S-Mount and it appears to be longer than a Color-Skopar 50/2.5. I would recommend the latter as a compact 50mm lens.

I agree with Gabor here. The Color Skopar is also mechanically much better than the later Leica Summarits f/2.5 and f/2.4.

Interesting. I already have the LTM Color Skopar 2.5/35, which is very nice. No experience with the 50.
