I just got a smena 2 camera, I am having trouble finding information on this camera and my search brought me here.

I believe this is a rangefinder, now I just need to know how to set the top dial, and most important, where do I get a take up reel (and load the film)?

Any info you have is greatly appreciated.

This is my first rangefinder, but second russian camera, I also have a Kiev 60.

Hi,

I have a Smena 3, which is very similar to yours.

Original take-up spools are as rare as hen's teeth, but you could try Alexphoto on the bay, he sometimes has them. When I was looking, and before I found Alex, the best price I was offered was $30 (really).

An alternative is to simply use the centre spool of an exposed Ilford film and attach the leader with a short piece of masking tape. If I remember right, you will have to use a changing bag to unload anyway (no rewind crank), so this is a small inconvenience. Why Ilford? Well, I have tried a lot of others and found those to be the best fit.

Hope that helps!
