Smena-8M, Kodak Gold and old C-41 kit.

It took two weeks and 25 kilometers to deliver Smena-8M from main Canada Post facility to our office mailbox.

I loaded it with Kodak Gold 200 (last batch from local Walmart, which quit from the film in this February) immediately after getting it to my hands.

I took Smena-8M with me to four days trip to Peterborough, Ontario.
And 24+ frames lasts through it with some frames left for another half day trip with family on Niagara.
It took five days to start and finish the roll.

Where do I go for developing? Local Walmart even while still in business was often giving ruined film and unusable scans. It was $5 to develop same day, but gamble. Another still available options are more expensive and it takes longer time...
Wait! My Jobo/Telenal Press C-41 kit, which I'm periodically using since mixing it in ... 2013. I have developed in it 20+ films, last batch was for 2014 autumn colors.
Here we go again. The only problem is ... RTFM. I processed it at 102F instead of 100...

I'm still keeping C-41 kit bottles in my fridge after it. 🙂
And Smena-8M is also the keeper!

Amazing, a Tetenal C41 kit mixed in 2013 which soaked 20+ films is still working. I'm impressed!

I always worried my solutions (mixed last October and soaked only 10 rolls so far) would die suddenly someday...

Developing is 4.30 now and blix is 6-7 minutes.
Stabilizer kind of "green" now. I'll reorder same kit at some point with extra stabilizer from Kodak.

There must be a Smena somewhere. I've already searched my mother's house, but only found a Praktica and a few long-expired rolls of film.

Thanks for the info.! I also have them in the fridge, but without air tight bottles. I wonder how much impact can oxidation do to the solutions. Will know next year.

My stabilizer is reddish now, maybe they will change colour with aging, too. 🙄

Probably you are not making RA-4 prints but scanning only with some corrections.
Otherwise this is a bit over expired. 😀 However you can re-generate your chemicals when they are not too old by sparking Nitrogen and partial new chemicals. I am using Rollei Digibase (In fact a Fuji Hunt minilab kit) and doing the trick for over 18 months old chemicals. Stabilizer you can simply make by a 1% Formaline solution in a regular diluted wetting agent in destilled water.

Well, I don't like to use formalin and it isn't necessary with modern color negs.

Three days ago, with same camera, film and developing kit.

Thank you. This is very first frame (partially exposed) from this roll. I do edit simple scan in LR. It still feels like film, I guess 🙂
