Smiling Chair

Another one from my recent trip across the country.

I found these old motel chairs among the junk that clutters the grounds around the Cimmaron Antique Mall and Native American Museum along I-44 near Springfield, Missouri. I've long had a fascination with these chairs, starting when I began photographing the pair of them that my grandparents had next to their house when I was young.

Unfortunately, this place was already closed when I stopped to photograph it as the day was ending, so I couldn't see the "Native American Museum" inside.

My grandparents also had a pair of those out on their patio in Fort Worth. They were green and very beautiful, or so I thought at five. I wish I had a pair now. Beautiful picture. Are you working in color a lot now?

Big smile here! I remember sitting in one of these old rusted chairs.I rocked back a little and the legs slowly gave way,folding back till I was facing the sky🙄

Thanks guys. These chairs are so common, everyone has sat in them but often people don't notice them. They have a simple beauty, and I've noticed that they're rarely alone. There are usually two of them together, sometimes more as in this photo, but usually its a pair.

These remind me of the cool chairs on my Grandmother's front porch in South Texas. She had two of these on her porch and I remember driving down to see her and if we arrived in the afternoon she would be sitting in one of the chairs waiting for us to arrive. I guess I miss my grandmothers as much as I miss my parents. Later in life I purchased two for my Mom to remind her of her Mom.

The rocking on the chairs was wonderful.
