Just picked up a Hi-Matic E off the bay and it and the strap are very smokey. Any suggestions as to how to get rid of it? I have it outside now, under cover in case it rains but I don't think it will work too well. Thanks

Soaking it in lemon juice for a few hours, rinse in water, and letting it air-dry afterwards also works.

PS: lemon juice does not have to be fresh squeezed 🙂 The supermarket bottle stuff works fine.

I can attest to the fabric softner-in-the-bag trick. Took the cat urine smell out of a an old SLR I had. If it works on cat pee, it'll work on anything!!

Uh...guys...what about baking soda? A box of baking soda (or one of those nifty new refrigerator Arm & Hammer jobbies) would work well, too. But be sure to put said baking soda IN something so as not to get it all over your camera. 😉

I've had the same problem.

I used one desktop fan, a window sill and an open window. Took two days to got most of the smell away. The rest of the smell? Started smoking.
