Yesterday I received an email reference Snapheal 2.1 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/snapheal/id480623975?mt=12&ign-mpt=uo%3D4

Since the price was only $9.99 I figure what's there to lose. So I download the program to see how well it worked as a tool for removing dust and scratches from film scans.

Since for the most part I've been using the Eraser tool that's what I'm going talk about in this short review. What I've found to work quit well for removing dust and small scratches was to choose "Wormhole" for the mode and "Highest" for the precision level. Then set the selection brush size to 15-20. Then with the view at 100% Use the select brush to select the dust/scratches I wanted removed. From what I've observed so far Eraser tool work's alot like the "Smart Healing" Brush in CS5 with the main difference being you can select mulitple dust spot/scratches and then click the "Erase" button just once to remove them.
Due to the amount of memory it seem to use, based on using it on Mac mini with 8GB of Ram I've found that it works best to work on smaller section of an image rather then doing the whole image at once.
Notes:
1. Its a stand alone program that support 16bit files
2. Can be used to open and apply basic edits to RAW files as well as 16Bit TIFFS
3 Can save to 16bit TIFF files.

* Works with 5D Mr1, X100 and M8 raw files but when trying to open 7D RAW files only 1/2 the image seem to appears, not sure why as it designed to work with files of up to 32MB.

Based on the brief time, about a day that I've used the program I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars, and say its the best $9.99 I've spent in some time as I do feel it does save me time over doing the same work in CS5.

I am a long time PS user and quite experienced in fixing images in PS and I use Snapheal as well for quick fixes. I like that it fires up quickly and I can get the job done and get out usually faster then my copy of PS 5 loads.

It does have some issues with trying to fix some areas in photos, but for the most part I think it's quite a nice tool as well and would easily recommend it. I've turned a few newbie editors onto it and Pixelmator as a PS alternative combo.
