Snow Leopard

GIMME A BREAK.

Auto engines are supposed to have 8 cylinders, cameras are supposed to be black or silver. Unless you are a girlie photog.

I want one but with black grips and a blue dot that says "HAL9000" on it. Actually, it's kind of neat in a mod 1960s way - but not neat enough to justify the massive price difference we all know it will have...

I've never looked at cameras as a fashion statement. My Rolleis and Minolta Autocords are black paint because they're black paint. That was the choice. Same for my Olympus Pen W. They all end up properly scruffy looking after getting some serious use. My Leicas have always been chrome. I could never see the sense in paying a premium to have a camera that's going to quickly get scruffy looking. At least when brass starts showing through chrome you've got a camera that's got some stories to tell. It's been around. I suppose the next (il)logical step would be "Official Leica White Camera Cleaner And Polish" for $39.95 for a 30ml bottle including a special ultra soft no-scratch applicator pad and polishing cloth followed a year later by the polish becoming available in a variety of scents.

... and you must wear a white suit when carrying the white M8 while driving a white Rolls Royce or white Kia ....

It's a fashion statement, Al.

Raid, I have a penchant for fostering scruffy fashions. About a dozen years ago I used the excuse that I was all broken up over my mother dying and I resigned from several municipal and civic board positions. A few years later a good friend was elected to the city council and he wanted to appoint me to the Board of Adjustment (we grant zoning variances). I agreed, but said I wasn't going back to wearing suit & tie. He said it was fine with him. I let my hair grow into a tangled mop, wore faded jeans, unironed shirts, stopped wearing socks, and switched from dress shoes to scuffed up deck shoes, took Monkette, my toy monkey, to board meetings, etc. The result? You rarely see a tie and jacket around city hall anymore and the toy monkey gets invited to campaign kick-off parties. If she's not with me people ask how she is. Candidates want to get pictures of themselves with the monkey, along with her tongue in cheek commentary of local politics on my blog.

I ran your suggestion by Monkette and she said that a white suit would RUIN my image! She also told me that she'd have to start wearing make-up and I'd have to buy her some nice dresses and so forth. Then I couldn't afford Leicas.

It’s an interesting dichotomy that’s developed; juxtaposing M9 believers and Leica’s necessary evil special editions. Kind of like whoreing your sister out so that you can afford some crack. These depths of depravity are met with ridicule and nervous laughter, while in the back of the M9 believers mind, a shiny new BLACK M9 suddenly appears through the haze. It’s all worth it in the end.
When I first saw this camera , I thought, ‘Pat Boone Edition’. Then I thought, this camera would match my white, thigh high patent leather boots perfectly. Then I remembered, I don’t own any thigh high patent leather boots.
Long story short; I won’t be buying the white M8, but someone better. At least that’s what the M9 faithful are hoping. :D

Dang it all, Doug! I don't smoke no crack, ain't got no sister to pimp for, and don't need me no white M9's to impress the homeboys. Why the hell me be readin' this thread? Time to light up a splif and get in the holiday spirit!

That's too bad; I don't like the 28/2.8 ... so I will pass. [this is my official excuse]

I may one day buy a digital camera when film photography becomes too difficult to continue with.

It was announced to dealers.

$8500 for a white M8 -- not 8.2
including a chrome 28/2.8

Stephen

That's disappointing ... I was hoping it was just internet hype and no such camera would ever come from a company like Leica! The olive green Safari I can live with because it's been done by them before but a white camera ... no way ... it's embarrasing!
