I plan on doing some shooting today or tomorrow with my M8, landscape shots either with my 21mm or 35mm. I want to keep the the ISO down to between 160 -300 and what I'm looking for is a suggestion for an EV setting. I've been using -1/3 and not so sure I'm happy with it. I don't have a lot of time to experiment I have bad knees and getting out in this weather kills me so I don't like do overs. Anyone got some suggestions?

I've shot many thousands of snow photos with the M8. Depending on how bright it is out, I shoot at zero to +1EV, or +2EV if the sun is in the frame.

If it's late afternoon or overcast, I stick with +1/3 or +2/3. You can go higher, but the scenes will look like it's brighter than it was.

Also, check your WB first thing, then check the histogram after the first few shots to ensure you're not blowing highlights, or losing shadow details, that you don't expect to be.

These were with a NEX 5, but it exposes pretty similar to my M8, most at + 2/3, late afternoon, and I wanted to show it getting dark:

if you took clean snow and looked at it in the lab with fluorescent white lights it might look very white.

When you look at it in nature under varying cloud and sky and sun conditions, it is sometimes like this color.

BTW, OT, but a couple of weeks ago, a large deer was in our backyard, which is enclosed by fencing. We were astonished, and couldn't figure how it got in there.

I thought of you and your story in the other thread, and we have friends who have deer families in their larger (much larger) back yards.

Anyways, after we got some photos, we thought we'd open the gate and hope the deer would wander out, but the commotion we were making at the back of the house caused the deer to scrobble up a fence and into a neighbors fenced backyard, where he was let out through a gate. A couple of the photos I took were on K64, so still on their way back from Dwaynes.

growing up i had a dog that would climb fences, paws in the chain links, and up / over.
Deer - i've seen just jump over the fence as if it wasn't even there.

The Deer are amazing jumpers, I watch them run through the woods leaping over downed trees and limbs as if they weren't even their. I don't have any fences I am surrounded by woods, I'm on 10 acres so the deer drift in and out all the time.
I just had a batch of Wild Turkeys eating out of the Deers Feed bucket.

Goal to make snow white instead of grey

50/50 might be snow foreground with subject matter not snow covered.

A full field of snow or lots of snow and subject covered in snow, like trees, but white with snow.

Sunny snow field - definitely a +2

Experience base... forested mountains of Oregon. Skiing and snowshoeing in snow parks.

ISO 100-200 mid morning to mid afternoon. Predawn or dusk 200-400.
