So frustrating!

Just found out that the local NYC USPS post office didn't scan the priority package info when Philippe, the publisher of my book, Never Seeing Nothing dropped them off (on Monday 12/14) Evidently, if you use self-printed postage labels -- like the kind you can generate online -- and if you then drop off the package in a designated mail slot -- the post office won't have a record of the package until it's delivered. Which, considering tracking is built-in to the cost of shipping is pretty frustrating. So, if anyone is sending say a classified or eBay item, make sure you not only wait in line for a clerk, but that you make sure they scan it in. Oh, well it's Holiday time -- so I guess we're lucky they can deliver everything.

Anyway, to anyone who ordered a copy of the book, sorry for the confusion. Going forward, Philippe will bring a copy of War & Peace to read while waiting in the post office line. If anyone ordered a copy this past weekend and hasn't received it, please PM. Cheers.

online printed postage most certainly does get USPS tracking

its possible either that post office just missed the scan during this time of year -

or the class of shipment chosen by the sender does not have tracking.

that depends upon the country you are shipping to.

Most foreign countries do not require postal clerk shipping.

My wife dropped off an identical envelope with the same pre-printed shipping label on Long Island -- but at a small post office -- and she handed it to the clerk -- and that one was scanned in with tracking available.

go to USPS.com, ship a priority package.
or call the USPS 800 help line.

there is no such thing as USPS priority mail shipping without tracking.
-- it does not exist --

your local post office might be too lazy to scan in priority mail packages,
but that does not keep priority mail packages from being tracked in transit and upon delivery.

check Philippe's receipts.
If there is no tracking # on the receipt,
Philippe did not ship them by a trackable shipping method.

Ok just for clarification what happened is that the post office did not scan and process the packages until 4 days after I dropped them off. Because of the lines and because the mailroom inquiry window was closed I used the drop slot. The lesson is get your packages scanned at the point of origin otherwise they may get lo-priority treatment and you wil have no recourse

Guys... There is no sure fire method to usps shipping during the holidays.
I dropped off 4 packages on 12-11-2015.... all 4 scanned in by clerk.
Only 2 showed scanning the first couple days.
2arrived and then tracking showed delivered but not until then.
Another has arrived and still shows "electronic shipping information... Blahblah blah... (The buyer emailed he received it.)... Stil does not say delivered.
The last just started showing tracking today (international).
It's the time of year... Just relax and wait like we used to do 🙂

If one is doing ebay, get a scan form and insure everything for the full purchase price.
There is no other guarantee against fraud.

Origin Sort Facility is -- 1 Hanover St Fl 1, New York, NY 10005, that is a small Post Office near Wall Street (I have been there many times myself).

I dropped off at John St , not Hanover - but otherwise good points

I'm seventy and have never had anything lost in the mail. I used to go stand in line at the PO for work every day. Early on I got suspicious when a lady behind me said into her phone, "I've been waiting in line at the post office for 45 minutes!" Now I had only been in that line for 15 minutes, so I wondered... So I made it a project to time my waits at the PO. The times ranged from 0 to 27 minutes over three months, and average was 12 minutes and change. This is the fairly busy central PO in a town of 170.000. I think the USPS is utterly amazing.
