So... How's the GR after you've used it for a while?

Dust. Lots of dust. I've opened it twice to clean the dust but I afraid it may be on the bot mirror, behind the lens assembly but in front of the sensor. I'm unable to access the glass without removing the lens entirely. 🙁

And more to the point, how usable is the AF?

I ask as I've gone through X100 and X2, and settled on an OM-D simply because of its focusing speed. I have a 2 year old, and I need the camera to focus, no fuss, and shoot.

As a former GR1s, GRD, GRDII, GRDIII, GXR and GRDIV user, I WANT a GR so so so much. But I won't bite if it doesn't do what I need it to do...

Congrats on your new GR. I hear you about the Leica rangefinder's weight: the M9 and M7 become rather irksome to carry for hours a day in a shoulder bag, unless you hang it around your shoulder and hold it in a hand most of the time.

With the GR you can get near-M9 image quality (gasp) in something that slips into your pocket. If you have the 21mm adapter, you gain a 21mm field of view that compares disturbingly well with the Leica M9 and Zeiss 21/2.8 for many applications.

The 35mm and 47mm crop modes are surprisingly handy, giving the equivalent field of view and depth of field as 35mm in 10mp m43 and 47mm in a 5.7mp 1" sensor, but with the image quality of an aps-c sensor. It's like having three cameras in one.

After a few weeks, I find myself more and more enamoured with the GR. Yes, it's not as versatile as the old GRDs (mostly because the dof on the small sensor was immense), but it is an incredible combo of size and image quality. It's only the second camera (after the M9) that I often find provides fantastic RAW images ooc at low ISOs.

TAv is a master-stroke, and I cannot believe other manufacturers haven't copied it. Paired with DxO's incredible noise-reduction, I find that even ultra-high ISO shots become usable, and dialling in f4.0 and 1/100, I don't have to worry about the AF being absolutely spot on.

It's the first digital p+s that I don't feel hobbled taking: the final image quality may not be M9/M240/MM phenomenal, but they're close enough for something that can be slipped into a pocket. I haven't felt that about a p+s since the TC-1 and GR-1...

Well, I'm completely in love. This camera is just... right.

Even though it was expensive, I bought a GV-1, and now walk around with TAv (f4, 1/200), snap @ 2.5m, no display, smart metering, -0.3 Exp. comp.

It is an absolute revelation. I haven't felt this free since my GR1s and TC-1 (no longer used except special occasions due to the exorbitant cost of decent film processing nowadays).

The image quality and flexibility of the files, too, is a revelation - like its film predecessors, close enough to a full-fat Leica to make me not feel short changed leaving the M9/MM/M240 at home. This is the p+s digital I've been waiting for.
