so I'm thinking of going Nikon. Lens advice?

Thanks for all the advice. This is very subjective as I expected but it is a good starting point before I look into this further.

This is just a thought. I think I'll start with a one lens setup to see if I like the Nikon body before jumping heavily into the system.

Trying to keep all off my options open doesn't seem to benefit me much, as ChrisLivsey had mentioned. If I get an F2 with a suite of non ai lenses, but wanted AF down the road, then I would have to buy another body and set of Af lenses. Likewise, some AF lenses would not work properly on my F2 (like G lenses).

I'm thinking of a 28mm, 50mm/58mm, and 105mm at the moment.... definitely not the 58mm f1.2 though.

The Nikkor 50/1.2 AIS can be fun too.

Add the 45mm f2.8 pancake lens (either the old GN-Nikkor or the new) if you want a super compact standard lens. You really can't go wrong with the older Nikkor lenses.

Might consider keeping one OM lens and body until you are sure you like the nikon. All are good, just whatever is your preference. Your Nikon lens plan sounds solid, though. I have both but prefer shooting with Olympus (OM-1n and OM-4T). They just seem to fit me better.

No real right answer here, but I like, in no particular order:
105 2.5 ais, 105 2.0 DC, zeiss 85 1.4 or nikons, 35 1.4G, 20 2.8ais shot at f4-8 for landscape, 14-24 for ultra wide range, 24-70 for weddings, 70-200 for telephoto.

I just started with Nikon myself with an F3 and a 50mm f/2 H. The 50mm is one heck of a lens I have to say. I later added a 24mm f/2.8 AI which I highly recommend and just recently a 105mm f/2.5 P (the Sonnar version). I quite enjoy these old Nikkor lenses I have to say.

OK, Here's what I bought after looooong research:
28mm I didn't go there.
35mm I chose the F2.0 Nikkor-O (couldn't afford the 1.4, reportedly a GREAT lens with floating elements for better close-up performance, but the f2 is no slouch, either)
50mm I like the f2.0 Nikkor H better than the 1.4 (tried both)
85mm Nikkor-H 1.8
100/105mm The Nikkor-P 105 2.5 is one of the lenses that made the Nikon legend. There are many versions. There is a recent thread about all of them.
I bought all of these lenses as non Ai, but later had most converted.

I use this camera with the 85/2 and 105/2.5P - both great lenses for portraiture, better than many subsequent versions. In case you want to overspend, you could get the 105/2 DC, which is a wonderful portrait lens, and will also autofocus on F100.

my vote(s) for the 105 2.5 P (i guess i have the non-sonnar version. the AI conversion was painless and inexpensive) and for the 105 DC in that focal length. hard (very) to beat!

good luck
