so keith, what ya think?

Is this really Oz?

The weather is a killer and I can't believe it's actually too foul to contemplate taking any pics with anything ... let alone the new Ikon. But I may weaken and put my 1.2 Canon on it tomorrow and take some shots in the gloom somewhere ... it is hard to resist!!!

Joe ... I took the the camera straight out of the packaging at the post office today and looked through the viewfinder and near wet myself! 😱 Amazing ... absolutely amazing ... my M8 is like a dirty old IIIc in comparison. I'm also very glad I chose the silver ... it's pretty classy looking and black is so passe these days don't you think? 😛

Build quality? ... well it's certainly no M but it's nice and light ... and although it does feel light it doesn't feel cheap and flimsy. One thing that did amaze me was when I slipped the rather large F1.2 Canon onto it and looked through the viewfinder you could barely see the edge of the lens at all and it was certainly nowhere near the 50mm frame lines. Infinity focus seems fine and the vertical alignment is perfect ... which was a relief!

One very interesting thing that pleased me was the optics of the viewfinder match my left eye perfectly, which a lot of my other cameras don't ... I get a very slightly blurred image through the viewfinder of the Hexar and the same with my M's due to these monovision contacts I wear. The rangefinder image in the Ikon is as sharp as a razor and this alone will help make it very easy for me to use at night. I'm thinking possibly of heading into Brisbane with it on New Year's eve and taking some city night shots.

😀 😀 😀

Weather reports are predicting possible flash flooding here on the coast during the weekend... Although I bet you could make some nice b&w portraits with that 50 1.2 on the ikon with this kind of cloudy atmosphere. Think of it as a giant softbox in the sky.

Having the canon 50 1.2 on the Ikon sounds like a beauty of a combo - You wouldn't share a glamour shot of them would you?

I'll post a pic later with the lens mounted ... and something else I found today that's rather unusual and has a significance that relates to the Zeiss and it's arrival. 🙂

sounds like your gonna like that rig!

i know people talk about the vf but until you actually look through one you have no idea.
it's like a bay window.
the zeiss external finders seem to amplify the light even more btw.

i'll be curious now to see some photos and hear what you have to say after having shot them.

thanks.

Well, Keith, now you have ALL M mount brands. WHat's your favorite? And why? And most importantly - do you think your photos will get better now due to longer VF base and brighter VF? WHat I mean is - will this in reality help you take photos you couldn't with other cameras? Waiting on your objective report! Who knows, maybe you will convince me to give a ZI a shot. 😉

For Gavin .... 🙂

Sweet... That looks really great. I quite like the silver finish on them. Be sure to follow up with a report on it. Sometime in the first quarter of 2008 I'll be getting either an m6/hexar RF/ZI, so any feedback on the 3 compared would be great

The BIG BIG feature with this thing is the viewfinder ... it truly is awesome. It's a little sensitive to eye position in regard to the finder patch but when you see the actual size of the eyepiece that's not surprising.

I noticed in the news tonight that they're advising campers to get off Fraser Island. I also feel a little sorry for all the people at the Woodford Folk Festival ... half of Mt Nebo goes to that and it will just turn into mud if it hasn't already! I don't remember a Xmas/New Year like this in a long time. 😱

Keith, I got mine today, and the viewfinder is amazing--and I'm a stone cold M3 lover. Ohh by the way, I do have the 85mm F/2 for my OM1 & OM2 Spot Program.

And this significant "thing" is...?
