so long and thanks for all the fish...

geez the horror, the horror; here comes senility!!! I sold the camera to sevres_babylone, Jack, not sepiareverb as I originally posted! Sorry if there was a mix up. thanks Bob, I would not have noticed if you did not PM me.

hmm, interestingly enough, I met with Chris today to drop off the 15 heliar, and tried his BESSA R; it seemed very easy to focus compared to my RD1. the only other RF I still have is a TOPCON fixed lens and it also is a little easier to focus; maybe its the RD1 I have had a problem with; having said that, I did not seem to get any missed shots with my serenar 50 1.2 previously, so....heck, I am not sure. I will try shooting a *gasp* film with my TOPCON to see if I get good results...

Interesting that my eyesight (as of last month) is 20/20...!?!

Scared the senility right out of me that's for sure. :D

Are you in that same lucky group as I whose eyesight goes from being unable to read roadsigns to perfect on the way to not being able to read?

I'm currently at 20/20 myself, for how long we shall find out...

Don't be sad George, I'm in the same boat, had to sell my RD-1 for the very same reason, couldn't focus properly anymore...went also to good hands!

George,

The 15mm heliar will not focus on your R-D1 as it's not rangefinder coupled. Same with the 12mm.

Cheers,

That's right Benny, the 15 scale focuses. I was refering to the BESSA as being easier to focus; sorry if I was not clear :)

I am now left with a PS that does not work  ..so something must give, he he.

i posted this last night on another topic but i just shot, last friday night, some 300 frames at a dance party disco in melbourne with the RD1s with the CV20 as well as the CV 40 and used DOF barrel range focusing at f8 for the 20 and f11 for the 40 all night. i never had to focus and everything is in focus that was in range. i shot predominantly with a soft, wide flash on the RD but i also shot a roll of 3200 ISO BW with no flash and the same DOF lens-barrel set focusing, max range at between 3 and 5 metres (yards-ish). so that i didn't bump the aperture and focus rings i just put a strip of black soft-grip painter's masking tape (NOT gaffer tape!!!) around the rings so my DOF settings didn't get disturbed. the 20 isn't that crisp a lens in low light but at f8 it gave good results for the job. the 40 was very crisp and contrasty, especially with the 3200 ISO film.

depending on where i was going to be in the club i would just go into a lit area and reset the max field distance and put the tape back on and back into the melee of writhing bodies. i found the RD to be a great cam for this as it is low-profile and inconspicuous. i also carried an R4A with the 3200 stuff, set on manual. images are on another comp but if anyone is interested i can post some samples.
