So where does everyone wear their RF? Are you a chest, stomach or hip length strapper? A freind of mine asked me why I wear mine hanging down around my stomach instead of around mid chest where most camera straps come pre set at and it got me wondering where everyone else wears their's and why.
 
My two RFs are different. My S3-2000 is on a Gordie Strap. I find the Nikon RFs to be the perfect one hand camera (as long as you are right handed). For my M4-P it's hip level most often around my right shoulder. When I was shooting with a T it was the same level but sideways as there was a winder attached to her 100% of the time.

I never liked mid chest as it feels unnatural to pick something up from that spot. Even when I was using SLRs a lot, one was just above the waist, the other across a shoulder below the hip. Home made leather straps so that they did not hit each other when I moved that way.

If I'm not using it it's on my back, strapped across my chest.
If I'm using it, the strap is wound around my right wrist.

I rarely hang cameras over my shoulders, and never around my neck.
 
Depends on the camera. My Hasselblad sits down lower at the top of my stomach and presses nicely against me when I'm using the WLF. My other cameras I wear a little above my stomach.
 
I side sling over my shoulder and have the strap adjusted to go between my stomach and my hip. That way it feels more like a small bag than a camera. Otherwise I'll put a hand strap on it. Having the camera hang from my neck onto my chest is so uncomfortable!
 
I do not trust ANY strap. The only purpose it ever serves is as a fail-safe for my hand, wrapped around my wrist OR as a part of a "human tripod" (ok, that sounds... never mind) - when shooting with a TLR or a MF SLR at low shutter speeds, I find I can get really stead by resting back against wall, camera against gut, hands pushing down (while holding, of course!) on the camera. But that's rare.

Regardless of where I put the strap, i always hold the camera. First, it's really annoying to have a camera bouncing around on your rib cage. Second, the strap's purpose is to keep the camera from dropping when I forget to hold it, or need to let go of it.
 
i have it either in my pocket, in my bare hands, or on my left shoulder under my arm.
I hate it when a camera is bouncing on my belly. Only my TLRs are allowed to do that.
 
More at elbow height for me, as I carry with the (short) strap over a shoulder, and retain the camera from moving around with my elbow. On the chest and around the neck is uncomfortable, but occasionally I'll run the strap around my neck as a temporary failsafe if there's a risk of dropping the rig over the bridge railing or something...
 
I wear it like a messenger bag when on the go.
If I know I want to take a picture soon but conditions call for two hands (ie. tending to the child) i'll wear it around my neck.
If I am going out and ready to shoot..It's in my hand with the strap wound around my hand.
 
Sometimes on my chest - I hate it with my SLRs but its alot more comfortable with a little RF and easy/quick to bring up to my eye. However I usually only wear it like this when visiting busy locations where people wouldn't take much notice of me. Most of the time its in my hand with the strap wrapped several times around my wrist.
 
Short Answer: lots of places. (File under "none of the above.")

Longer Answer: Much of the time, when I'm out with the full kit, almost everything stays in the Domke satchel over my shoulder, with one body either around my neck (yeah, unfashionable these days, but it works), or, in the case of the other hexar body I've set up thus, "Tuco style" (sigh...just do a search here), over the other shoulder. There's some semblance of a formula here, but I don't have aname for it just yet. Depends on the day. :)

My preferred carrying position is the camera oriented vertically at chest height, by having the strap go over the right side of my neck and under my left arm.

This position permits me to sling the camera under my left arm, concealed by the jacket, should I desire to enter an area where carrying a camera in an obvious ready position may be undesirable. While being carried at the ready at chest height it's a simple matter to bring the camera up to eye level to make an exposure, and then let it drop back to chest height. Also, my style of walking usually causes the camera to swing wildly from side-to-side if the camera is merely slung around my neck, so this vertical carry position keeps the camera much steadier.
