So who is going to brass their M9?

While I assume most older painted M brass as a natural phase of their use, some appear to been aged, though the looks are appealing, at least to me. So I am wondering who will take the step and age their 9? No, I don't think I will but I would enjoy seeing the results. :^)

I've brassed an MP and M8.2 through normal wear and tear...

There was recently a thread on this same action regarding a member wanting to "age" a M4-2 or M4-P. The general consensus was that he shouldn't do it.
Last week a friend of mine received a late model MP in the mail and the former owner decided to "brass" it with steel wool. Too bad he also "aged" the viewfinder and rangefinder windows quite well.
I say use the camera and let it age naturally, don't abuse it. My opinion, of course.

If you want an M9, or even an M8/8.2, "brassed", send it to me. I will return it to you significantly brassy. Just give me a year or two with it. Ditto on BP lenses.

I've had my M8 (it's the ltd ed Panda that got black paint just before the release of the 8.2's) just about a year now and there's one teeny, tiny spot of brass showing. My impression is that the paint on these wears longer than that on MP's before rubbing off. Can anyone confirm that?

Anyway, as the others have said, use and enjoy it. It'll wear soon enough. Otherwise, it's kind of like trying to dye dark hair to make it grey. Why not let time do the trick?

After two and a half years or so my MP3 is rather brassed, so I'd guess my M9 (when it finally arrives) will get rather brassed as well. My cameras look like they look- I certainly don't baby them, nor do I 'age' them- I use them.

It does seem all too easy to brass these fragile paint surfaces. If some of you think that is cool, I have absolutely no problem with that. What makes me mad is those of us who do not want "brassing" have no choice since Leica already chose for us to have brassing with their paint. For 7k, I feel that if I do not want brassing, I should have that choice. I have had my M6 since 1990 and it still has no signs of any wear despite many hundreds of rolls of film, trips into places like Gaza City,etc,,,.

Now my mind is telling me the M9 is not that much of a leap over the M8, and the M8 has the extra sweet bonus of real chrome like my M6!!

Thanks but no thanks Leica. For 7k I want the same choices I would get when buying a car! Hell look at Panasonnic. They give you color choices, at no charge! A chrome option at no charge would be classy!

For years Nikon & Canon SLR's were black paint. At the scale of production Leica has two choices seems pretty generous to me.

I can not believe, well I can, that someone used steel wool.

I am also confused as to why black chrome was not used. I do know that chroming actually decreases the strength of the metal. Is it a black chrome technique that is used? I always thought it was cool when Leica went with the black chrome finish. I used to sell Leicas back in the early and mid seventies.

Well - for a camera that has been in production for such a short time as this, to be in such a sh#t condition through handling and use, IMO means there is something radically wrong with either the camera or user, or both! 🙁
