So would you buy a used M8?

I would, if it cost the price of an RD1

...Vick

The M8 is a great camera. Just beautiful. I have a new one and I absolutely love it.

Its feels right. It handles right. Its as beloved already as my M6 or Hexar RF with all the added bonuses of digital. I'm at 3000 images and counting in 3 weeks.

Most naysayers have not used one.

Yes there are a few hiccups, but Leica is being very good about support and resolving any issues.

haha
you know what's extremely funny?

No, they make DSLRs that are much less expensive and much more capable.

Just my opinion.

No.

But, I love my new M8.
It has redefined my love and interest in photography.
Is it perfect? No.
Is it without blemishes? No.
But it's great to use, it begs you to go out and shoot.

I use

I use

Leica M's, R's, Nikon RF, F, Hasselblad, etc.

But, I just got at RD1. And I would love an M8 for the M-quality finder. But not at the M8 price.

Leave out the "D" in "DSLR" and you've got a response from twenty years ago to the question "So would you buy a used M6."

Maybe, probably.

I am not looking for a debate, obviously mine here will be the minority opinion, but it is just an opinion, not right or wrong.

I love my RF cameras, they will always be the focus of my hobby which also involves film, processing and printing a little too.

Eventually, I do need to get into the current century, when I do I see it being with a DSLR.

Oh I was just poking fun. I happen to agree that the M8 is significantly impaired in comparison to DSLRs, and in ways that film Ms aren't to film SLRs. The reduced sensor size is to me the dominating problem with the M8.

I'm with you Rover. I was momentarily enthralled with the idea, but the sensor size and inevitable electronic failure are too much for me to swallow right now. Maybe I'll get over it if I handle one and play with the files but right now I'm finding the film and scanner are working for me. Plus I love grain and hate noise ;)

But why should anyone other than me care what I think?!

I don't really like to buy used electronics period. But if I had the money, and Leica sold referbs at a good price like Epson did with the RD-1, then why not? I don't really look at refurbs the same as used, once they go through the factory. Plus you get a warrenty like NIB.

I'd buy one for ~$1,500 because I'd NEVER shoot color with one and that's about what I'd pay for a great B&W only camera.
