Well here it is! My 3.5F had a baby last night.
A friend sent a link to this little guy a few night ago and I started exploring to see if it was any good. I found opinions, like everything else, from its cheap plastic junk to it’s the second coming.
Prices ranged from around $125 down to, according to some reviewers, around $25. Sites supposedly offering low ball prices were questionable so I went to Amazon and found it for a round $50.
I figured I could send it back if bit was junk so I went ahead and ordered it. That was Monday night and today is Friday. I was amazed that it actually arrived today.
I didn’t expect it to perform like a digital Hasselblad and figured it would be more like a digital Holga. Well I was surprised! It’s not a Hasselblad digital camera but the images are darn good within the it’s designed boundaries. I wouldn’t attempt a 30x30 inch print but looking at images at the native size of 11x11 inches at 300ppi they’re remarkable.
Color, exposure and sharpness were more than acceptable. Dynamic range is probably about like slide film which is fine and they look like they’ll print very nicely.
The camera shoots video which I don’t care about, does monochrome in camera, you can review them and the VF isn’t too bad. The hood opens like my F model and the auto focus seems right on as does exposure. The AF can be switched off and you can select your area in the center of the VF and hit the center of the crank and it’ll focus and hold that focus while you recompose.
A 16 gig micro SD card came with it along with a charging cord, strap and instructions.
Most of the attached images were straight out of camera other than scaling them to 6x6 at 300ppi. One or two I lightened the exposure about 1/3 of a stop. There were no color adjustments.
You wanted a square format digital TLR so here it is and it’s as cute as a bugs ear.
