Well here it is! My 3.5F had a baby last night.

A friend sent a link to this little guy a few night ago and I started exploring to see if it was any good. I found opinions, like everything else, from its cheap plastic junk to it’s the second coming.

Prices ranged from around $125 down to, according to some reviewers, around $25. Sites supposedly offering low ball prices were questionable so I went to Amazon and found it for a round $50.

I figured I could send it back if bit was junk so I went ahead and ordered it. That was Monday night and today is Friday. I was amazed that it actually arrived today.

I didn’t expect it to perform like a digital Hasselblad and figured it would be more like a digital Holga. Well I was surprised! It’s not a Hasselblad digital camera but the images are darn good within the it’s designed boundaries. I wouldn’t attempt a 30x30 inch print but looking at images at the native size of 11x11 inches at 300ppi they’re remarkable.

Color, exposure and sharpness were more than acceptable. Dynamic range is probably about like slide film which is fine and they look like they’ll print very nicely.

The camera shoots video which I don’t care about, does monochrome in camera, you can review them and the VF isn’t too bad. The hood opens like my F model and the auto focus seems right on as does exposure. The AF can be switched off and you can select your area in the center of the VF and hit the center of the crank and it’ll focus and hold that focus while you recompose.

A 16 gig micro SD card came with it along with a charging cord, strap and instructions.

Most of the attached images were straight out of camera other than scaling them to 6x6 at 300ppi. One or two I lightened the exposure about 1/3 of a stop. There were no color adjustments.

You wanted a square format digital TLR so here it is and it’s as cute as a bugs ear. IMG_6123.jpegIMG_6127.jpegPICT0009.jpegPICT0006.jpegPICT0013.jpegPICT0017.jpegPICT0019.jpegPICT0003.jpeg

But just out of interest do you get an accurate view through the viewfinder. I assume there is no focus but correct me if wrong.

Wow -- I may have to check this out! The affirmations around the lenses are a little much, but whatever. So, autofocus or manual -- that's cool. Appears to close focus. I suppose that despite the bayonet mounts around the lenses, it won't take the Bay I filters. What's the nominal 120 focal length equivalent?

I just ordered one. I love toy cameras and this certainly fits the bill, although those images you posted are really nice and sharp. Last year, I purchased a Camp Snap digital toy camera, and it is a blast to shoot. Can't wait to get this.

I opened this thread, looked at the name and started to Google this camera while listening DJ's with old records channel from Moscow.

We all know how Lomography has started.
Some dudes on the West adopted junk USSR film cameras and it becomes art for not making money masses.

Did OP used "art" word?

We are into something...

Why Lomography is dead? Because they have lost momentum. They got married, mortgages and no risk has to be taken. And they have lost the obvious, film becoming dead for masses not making money.
Late Lomography opened store in Toronto and it was DOOD (dead on opening day).

Is LOMO LA-A a toy camera? With my FSU background, it is. Just like Smena and Schkolnik, Lubitel and so on. Cameras intended as toys.

So, while Nikon is OK with ZF, ZFs here is demand for something less expensive and fun looking.
Like camera here.

Fake Minox was ahead of its time. Some less botoxed, Kardashian Mark II has to show it in the video now to get it started for real.

Smaller than a Baby Rollei, Primo Jr or the other 127 TLRs? It might be! Having the classic TLR folding hood would help quite a bit in viewing the VF in bright light. I am interested to know about filters, shades, case. (Maybe I should just see the listings.) Act now, USA folks, before the price goes up....

So do I want this or the TIArtisans (?) Instax folder? I think this, if it's as inexpensive as it appears.

When I ordered mine from Amazon about an hour ago, it said it was the last one available. I don't know if that is right or not. With tax, it came out to almost 57.00. I paid 65.00 for my Camp Snap and it is only 3.2 mp and has no screen at all.

You're reading my mind! I could actually see myself owning a digital camera... 😉

It looks like the display is square in photo mode (screen is maybe 240x240 pixels resolution) and changes the 16:9 in video. Sounds like it is basically fully auto everything, JPEG only and you can set it for color or B&W.

It is $30 delivered on Aliexpress. A couple of rolls of film. If anyone is expecting a digital Rollei this isn't going to be it. But it might be fun if expectations are kept in check.

The lens is pretty close to normal I think but haven’t compared it to my Rollei but will.

I don’t think the bayonets will accept filters but holding one on it should be fine. I used to cut Kodak Wratten gelatin filters and tape them in odd size lenses.

It’s not a true TLR, the focusing screen is an LED screen or something like that so it’s pretty accurate.

The hood folds similar to the Rollei F hood, cool.

Yes it auto focuses very close. You could use a diopter, taped on, and really get close. AF can be shut off too and there’s an indicator frame in the center that shows where the focus point is. By placing the point you want to focus on in the center you can push the center of the crank and activate the AF briefly to focus on that point then recompose and trip the shutter. It’s like an AF lock sort of.

When your cameras comes in post some of your images.

I shot a few more photos this afternoon around the yard and still like what I’m seeing. No it’s not a high end camera but the images are way better than my expectations especially considering the cost. It’s definitely a fun camera.

I reminds me of iPhone 4 or 5 image quality but at 12mp (instead of 5mp?). Two books I really like were made on those iPhones. I think if you commit to this camera, it can certainly be used for a project. or just fun.

X-ray, that's an interesting camera. Could you please tell me how it deals with flare if you can't fit a hood? Is there any way of dealing with dioptre correction? I know it doesn't have an eyepiece, but I have a Yashica 635 and in order to frame the image I have move my glasses so that I don't have to look through them, but in order to use the magnifier for focusing I have to look through my glasses, and to frame a shot with my old kodak digital compact I have to use my reading glasses to see the screen clearly.

It can't be equipped with a lens hood, and there's no viewfinder magnifier, but it can autofocus.
