Soft release buttons

The so called "soft release" buttons are buttons that screw into the cable release socket of your camera. They provide a higher point for your finger to operate the shutter release. Allegedly, they reduce any camera shake resulting from the finger press. IMHO if you have a good technique (check your manual for this) for pressing the shutter release, they don't help. The downside is that the release mechanism may be more easily damaged in case of an accidental bump or drop. You can search this forum or Google for "soft release button" for more information.

I've been using a soft release for a few years now, and yes, I think it helps. I just use the generic camera shop pegboard ones. I think the best explanation of how it works is that it increases the surface area of contact between the index finger and the shutter release. Less pressure over a larger surface area.
