I dropped my Digilux2. 😱 No real visible damage but a cracked lens hood, but it turned out the manual focus was out of kilter. It ook Leica six weeks, but then the camera returned looking like new (did I mention I turned it into a "user b-"grade over time), even had a new serial number😕 . Seems they couldn't remove the sticker. However, the repair was totally screwed up. MF worse, AF gone mad, Viewfinder not working, Program shift dead, and just to make sure I noticed nobody had even bothered checking the camera, a big yellow exclamation mark showed up on the display.
Of course the camera went straight back with a strong letter from my dealer, and I sent Leica an e-mail where the words "shocked" and "gobsmacked" featured prominently.
Now comes the good part. I got an immediate response from customer service, they informed me the camera had arrived and managed a turnaround time of ten days, included a new battery (not cheap,I can tell you) and an apology. That made me feel better. I'll collect the camera Monday, I guess.Let's hope that battery fits the M8 as well🙄
I might add that I have used Leica for repair a number of times over the years; I am careful with my camera's but hey! they are tools and I cannot expect them to remain pristine in environments that leave me battered and bruised - like walking safaris on the wild side and long skiing tours etc., and up till now I found them excellent to the point of perfectionism, albeit a bit expensive. So I think the above was a one-time thing inspired by the hassle of the M8 and the football world-cup combined.🙁
