Some 35mm Nokton f1.2 Sample Images - LONG

In yesterday's thread regarding the Noctilux I promised some folks some images from the CV 35mm Nokton at f1.2.

I scanned some images that I shot back in July with the lens mounted on the M2.

If you want to see more; just check out the thread that I have where I had it mounted on the M7 - not all the images are with it but there are a few there that you can see.My M7 Thread.

Here's the images from the M2 with the 35mm Nokton - all are Tri-X.

I'm unsure of the settings on this one.. I think f1.4 or f2.0 but can't be sure

I know there's a lot of speculation regarding CV lenses but I think this 35mm Nokton is a winner - it is a bit big for an RF lens but really, it's no bigger than an SLR 50mm macro lens.

Nice indeed. Still a little early for me for the Guiness, but it satisfies my visual thirst anyway.
Didn't you used to have the nokton 40mm. How does this lens compare with that one? Not in terms of size, but in terms of how wide open shots look.

Well, wide open.. the 40mm seems to be more "specular" imho. It's not horrible.. it's just not as smooth as the 35mm.

I think bokeh is so subjective.. although there are some (not necessarily here.. but on other forums) that would disagree with me entirely 🙂

Thanks Dave, they are excellent, that ticks all the outstanding boxes for me, I was put off initially by Erwin Puts’ review but every time I see it used I’m impressed.
It would be nice to see the Noctilux under the same lighting conditions to know for sure

I'm sure the Noctilux would be equally good (if not better) but at the price of about $700 USD used (tops) for the Nokton.. I think I'd choose the voigtlander every time 🙂

I am a 50mm type of guy, that is just what I see and gets the best results for me. But, in general lower light levels are experienced indoors where space is limited making a 50mm lens too tight to use with the same success I enjoy with it elsewhere. So, I need a wider lens, and if I am going to be using it in lower light levels, speed is king.

I’m printing larger these days, and the wider 35mm FOV seems to work better than the 50, I can go a stop slower on the shutter, and what with the crop factor perhaps on the horizon, everything points that way I agree

The only draw back is shallow DOF when you are wide open. Not that it is a problem, but it is something that needs to be kept in mind, and DOF with a 35 is not as shallow as it is for a 50.

Yes but it’s only going to be an odd centimetre or two, and again it is in the 35’s favour, a bit of forgiveness of focus error in poor light I would say was a plus on balance

I know there was a bar rail around there somewhere I must have been resting on 🙂

1/8 shutter speed without me leaning on anything is difficult 🙂

Nice study, Dave. The Nokton was certainly in it element, given the light levels. The bokeh is really attractive - and I'm picky. From inspection at Gandy's site, the DOF scale look very usable versus the 'lux ASPH.
