Some CV 35/2.5 Samples

I've been in love with my CV 35/2.5 Classic since I got it about 2 weeks ago. The quality of this little lens is the nicest I've ever worked with.

I've attached a few samples. The shots are hardly brilliant, but I find the lens is!

All using my Bessa R and either HP-5+ or Delta 100.

Nice Ben! It is a great little lens - I have the pancake version of it (optically identical). Below is an example of mine from my gallery shot with Neopan 400:

ben, I have the same lens (Classic). I like it too. It is so tiny compared to my 50 Nok. I'm looking for a 90, then the 35 will really look small. I like the water shot. BTW, I've also seen some nice postings here, in the gallery, with the SC version.

Peter, do you use Xtol regularly? I've been considering trying it out.

It is a really great lens isn't it? I've got it in the SC version for my Kievs and I'm constantly amazed at it's performance. Now if I could just shoot up to that...

Were the SC lenses discontinued?

IIUC from the pages at cameraquest, there was only a relativly small number of the various SC lenses made in the first place. Since they apparently didn't sell well enough, no more will be made. If I had the money, I'd buy them all but all I could (barely) afford was the 35/2.5. You might ask Mr. Gandy for more info.

Peter, do you use Xtol regularly? I've been considering trying it out.

Ray, I wish I could say yes because that would mean I do my own developing. However I get my negs developed in labs, currently I am using A&I in Los Angeles and Zona here in Cambridge. Not sure what Zona uses but A&I have standardized on XTOL and I find Neopan 400 looks really good with that soup. Great combination! 🙂

Peter I know your question is directed at Ben, but I have been thinking about this issue as well. The CV Ultron, the new Zeiss Biogon that will be out soon are attractive, no question. Its not like my CV 35/2.5 P is perfect, its not - it only has a closest focusing distance of 0.9M, and I would really like 0.7M like the Classic version of this lens. Its an f2.5 lens and yes it would be nice if were f2. These issues got me to buy a Konica M-Hexanon 35/2 a while back, I used it and then I sold it. The thing is that the lens is tiny (see attached pic of lens+filter+hood) and that means the camera is pocketable and that's why I'm going to keep on using this lens. Actually now I come to think of it, it is perfect! 🙂

Hi Peter, I too own the Color Skopar 35mm/2.5 P but I do not use it as extensively as the PII due to its collector status (my own opinion). But I used it before to test its optical quality and it is just as good as the C and PII. I agree the most attractive feature is its compact size.

Every time I develop negs shot with this lens, I love it more. There's a great, rich character to it, and a lot of depth to the images. Amazingly sharp, too. Here are a few more samples from the weekend, both shot on my Bessa R using Tri-X @ 1600 souped in D:76 1:1

I've got the new Pancake and its my favourite lens du jour. Its been my favourite for many years. I had the previous incarnation of the Pancake too.

A while ago, a classic one went for $13 ! at PN, didn't get it and regret ever since, I won't let another one pass though, a silver one would look gorgeous on the P.
Yes I know of the Canon 35/1.8, the 35/2 etc but even if I can change my mind and go for them instead, to be honest the wisest option would be to get another 35/2.5.
