So, I was playing with my Fed 2, and so far everything has checked out ok, even the pc synch works. Except now I am finding, after reading a manual for it, that the rewind knob should lift up. Mine does not. Not budging a bit from the feel of it. Any ideas?

It looks a little bit off kilter, like maybe it got bent somehow at some point. Not much at all, but? All I know is that it feels like it isn't going anywhere. It is a 2(f), I think. Looks just like the 2(e), but w/o ears.

Anybody have a similar problem...? In don't want to have to get on the sellers case just yet.

Mine "falls" open when you turn the camera upside down, its that free. Try the pliers with a cloth around the knob and see what happens. There is a collar and a screw which holds the knob shaft in. Maybe it needs cleaned and lubed on yours. If you can get it off ,use some fine emeroy cloth to polish the shaft ,then some light grease......

i think that it dont need to be lifted, because u have enough space to hold it when its in down position. i must check out mine when i come to my flat. but i still think that you dont need to lift it.

With the back off and the camera upside down put a drop or two of oil down the middle of the rewind fork, the shaft of the rewind knob slides down the middle of the fork, see if that gets it moving. If all else fails rather than pulling the knob up find something that will slip into the shaft of the fork and gently tap it to get the knob to move. Remember the knob is captive so unscrew the lock screw as soon as it is exposed and pull it all apart for a clean and lube.

Dave,
If yours "falls open", take the rewind lever out as Laika says and then "tighten" the shaft it runs through. You will see that there is a split in the brass which can be bent very slightly with a pair of pliers so that it "grips" the rewind shaft. Don't overdo it or it will be too stiff.

Laika,

Thanks! A little oil, and then a tap from underneath got it right apart. There is some lovely looks sludge that seems to have taken up residence there, so I'm sure a clean and lube and I'll be back in business! Thanks again!
