not great art but a test outing.
more to follow...

hp5 @400 in ddx

Looking good, Joe. I like the shadow detail in batch 1, photo 4. Are they a tad grainy for hp5/ddx? I thought you used Delta?

Those are really sharp.

What is a Lipsmackers Meat Pie?

the negs look way better, much more sharp.

lipsmakers? never had one but our farmer's market has lots of great foods and crafts etc.

Those pictures are so sharp Joe, I'd like to know how you scanned them. I really like them.

thanks kurt.

scanning is the same as for all my negs.

i use a canon 2710 film scanner.
settings are for colour positive at full resolution.
in photoshop, i invert the image & convert to grayscale.
i adjust levels by eye and tweak the contrast, both are minimal adjustments usually. i slightly sharpen. resize for the web, these are 300dpi and the long side is 850.

that's as far as my technical prowess has gone ;)

Joe,

On the last pic post - I think "lone coffee" is super. I sure hope this poor SOB woke up after he finished his cuppa.

I've been scanning in neg which PS "auto converts" to pos so haven't tried your approach.

Will do so next week.

Seems like the ZI is now working fine for you - congrats.

the 35/2 biogon lens is great. i was impressed with it's ease of use at first and combined with that big bright viewfinder and crisp focus patch of the zi, it seemed too easy, but...some of these negs are a brilliantly sharp.

it is a completely different 'look' from the canon glass. my 35/2 is plenty sharp but this is different...i look forward to seeing some of the shots i took yesterday with the 90 elmar and then the 50 summicron when it finally arrives.

i think it's time to get that 50 zm lens frank.
i think you'd be very happy.

i normally get up early but today was just having a poor sleep so decided to get up and annoy the dog. ;)

Joe: I echo what others (and you) have said about the 35/2, but will just add... Wow! I especially like the fourth of the 2nd and 3rd series.

As far as the HP-5 goes, it doesn't really look that great here, but I'm not sure if it's DDX or maybe just the agitation regimen. Don't want to hijack this thread, but since I'm out of conventional 400 speed b&w, I'm thinking I'll buy a some bulk Tri-X. Especially since the Great Yellow Father has declared film important ... again.
