Hey! Here's my IIIg freshly back from a CLA. I got a LTM to Nikon S adapter from Amedeo to use my Millenium Nikkor with it ! I'll go shoot some B&W this weekend !

Ahhh. What a beauty! I've been thinking about getting a IIIg for a long time... Have you owned IIIf/c/a (or IIx equivalent)? Or any Ms? if so, how do you feel about the size/weight difference?

I owned an M6, M3 DS, M3, M4-2 and a IIf. I really loved the IIf, but I really wanted to have the parallax correction, the bigger finder and slow speeds. The IIIg is the best of both worlds... It is gorgeous and quite convenient to use (better than the IIIf IMHO). It is indeed smaller than any M and I like that.

I am not very familiar with the adapting of nikon rf lenses, but this combination is rangefinder-coupled, no?
very sweet indeed.

TRES COOOOOL...Love it
though I do LOVE my recently acquired IIIf RD

How does it differ the IIIg to the IIIf , if i may ask ?

The IIIG doesn't seem THAT much bigger to me, but it is a bit taller. width and depth are the same. The bigger viewfinder is great though.

Helen, the differences are: Bigger viewfinder, with parallax corrected projected framelines for 50mm, and corner markings for 90mm (thats the extra window on the front of the camera) , no delay dial to fool with for flash sync, (syncs at 1/5oth, or 1/30th and slower), bigger shutter speed dial, film reminder on the BACK of the camera like on the M3, (not on the wind knob as on the IIIF), Selftimer on all IIIG's, and a different take up spool- you can use the spool from the M3 and M2, which is great since I have an M3 and extra spool anyway.
The V/F, R/F windows are slightly different in size and location than on earlier screwmounts, so accessories like the nooky and such won't work, or the earlier contrast filters for the r/f windows.

I like mine, and even though a wee bit bigger than the IIIF's and earlier, it's still plenty pocketable w/ a 5cm elmar collapsed on the front. :)

Leica IIIg (with 2/85 Jupiter-9) and Leica IIIcRD (with FED 50mm collapsible):

This IIIg has a crumbling shutter, still awaiting repair. Many IIIf are also found with shutters in similar state.

The shutter has been patched over with paint, and can still be used. But I'd rather have it replaced first before using the camrea any further.

I had a IIf, IIIf RD + self timer, and IIIg at one time. The IIIg is the only one of the Leica LTMs that remain. The viewfinder is definitely an improvement over the previous ones. Better eye relief, parallax corrected frame and corner markers for 50 and 90mm focal lengths.

The shutter speed scale is the same modern one that we are all familiar with. The odd speeds such as 1/75 are gone.
Flash synch is SO MUCH easier with the IIIg. With the IIIf, I was always adjusting the synchronizer depending on the shutter speed in use, as well as for X sych vs various different flash bulbs.

Compared to the M series, the LTM cameras as much smaller. Their little dials and buttons give them a jewel like appearance. The M cameras are flat topped, and spartan looking. The LTM cameras have a much busier top, which gives them a very "steampunk" appearance.

I also have the Leicavit that I use with the IIIf, IIIg. It really speeds up film advance compared to the knob.
