Thanks for the link. I'll pay attention to any work that has has gone through a rigorous selection or editorial process. I don't have to like the stuff (in this case I didn't much,) but at least I'm looking at the best of what some competent critic thinks has merit. Sometimes it makes me more open; makes me question my limited interests, though that's hard to determine at any one moment.
Selecting critics and reviewers is its own neglected endeavor. I don't see a play or movie without some prior assurance that I'm not wasting time and money; I like to browsing photos that have made it into commercial print or are hanging on a gallery wall. I don't read a new (to me) author without some recommendation. In each case, the external nod of approval is not a sure bet, but it improves the odds.
