Here are some Macro shots with extension tubes and Pentax SMC 50/2 on NEX 5. All are handheld at f5.6 or 8. C&C most welcome and appreciated.

107 views and no comments, the silence is killing me! I'd really appreciate even if you say it is c*ap (especially so, then I can improve) as I'm just beginning.

I like the third one the most.
It has the best composition, in my opinion.
I think they could use a bit of color adjustment, but the photos are quite nice. The spider thread in the last photo bothers me a bit as it distracts my eye from the ladybug. The out of focus branches also lead the eye away from the subject in the last photo.
Is the lens you used a screwmount or k-mount lens? If you want to do more serious macro work, for a very reasonable price you could pick up a 50/4 SMC macro takumar lens. It is a pentax screwmount lens though so you'd have to buy another adapter if your current lens is k-mount. I do all of my macro work with it. Feel free to check out the 'digital' section on my site for examples. It really is a stellar lens.

So many thanks for your comments guys! David, I haven't modified these so I will take a look at colour adjustment. And also thanks for the composition remarks, that is something I struggle with mostly. In this case it was on a rose bush so was very hard to find an angle.
Yes, the lenses are Pentax K. I also have two screw mount lenses but they are being used on my Canon so I will have to buy a new adapter for NEX. I would definitely check out the Pentax 50/4.

Rose bushes are very tricky. You could always pick up the lady bugs and move them where you want them. Pop them in the freezer for a few moments or spray with a compressed air can (upside down and gently) if they are being uncooperative.
This is the lens I use, http://www.keh.com/camera/Pentax-Screwmount-Fixed-Focal-Length-Lenses/1/sku-PS06009000842N?r=FE
I bought mine at the pentax forums marketplace though. Not sure how the k mount equivalent differs optically, if at all. Here is one for sale there -- http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/...per-multi-coated-pentax-m-50mm-f-4-macro.html
I have no connection with the seller and haven't investigated the seller or the advertisement; I just browsed around.
You can do a lot with extension tubes, but nothing really beats a true macro lens.

Nicely done. I wonder if the EP2 gives similar results.

No need to wonder. It does.

First one died on you? That sucks. :\
At least they dropped quite a lot in price now so a replacement is not terribly burdensome.
I still use my e-p2 for all my macro photos.

A brand new one cost me only $250 with a one year warranty.
