I've been looking at these and the ones on Flickr, and I wonder if they're OK re: sharpness? Always hard to tell @ 72 ppi, but some seem to be more in focus than others. The more forward of the two deer heads seems to be sharp, and the bench. But in a number of others, is the lens front-focusing?

I think you are both right about some of the S2 shots. The early ones on that blog, using the 50, are often at f1.4. And the focussing might be slightly out. Which I expect is more a problem with me using the camera and moving objects on a dark day than with the equipment.
Erik your pic is very sharp, but I am assuming that's not at f1.4.

These two are S2 & 5cm Nikkor wide open – though albino alligator has been sharpened:

Erik, IMO that's just what a classic Nikkor/Sonnar portrait should look like: Reasonable resolution, a great 3D look, and even a glowing hand.

This an experiment. POTA developer (originally designed for using with technical Pan film @ 25/40 iso). I had some TriX in Nikon Cassettes so I throw that in, just to see what it looked like. Kind of "gritty" - to put it mildly.
Nikon S2, Voigtlander Nokton 50 mm f1.5 in S-mount. TriX @ 400 in POTA developer for 15 min.
