Four of us met yesterday afternoon at the Last Temptation on Kensington Ave., Toronto's funky market near Spadina Chinatown. It was horribly humid and we all moved to the back room and ordered a pitcher of draft, and passed around Leicas and photos.

I definitely felt outgunned. I brought my Bessa-R and two old Russian Tessars - an I-26 and a fixed I-50, as well as a Kodak Signet-35 (a rangefinder from the mid-50s) with an Ektar f/3.5 44mm lens (loaded with 100 asa, on interios shots...)

Why outgunned? There were two Leica Ms, a Bessa R2A, and a bunch of excellent lenses from Leitz, Minolta, Canon and Cosina-Voigtlander.

Most of the photos that I took are here:

Everyone is there except Frank, who was sitting too close by for a shot. (I took at least one photo of Frank with my Retina IIIc, but that will have to wait until I finish that roll.)

My film scanner is an Agfa, at the local Dominion Store. For the first time ever, I paid only for processing (C$2/roll) and scanning onto CD (C$5). The tech just feeds the strip(s) into the machine, presses a few buttons on the screen of the "print your own" kiosk, and 10 minutes later the CD is done, with scans of each neg in three file sizes. (Until now, I've paid for one day processing, and then scanned the prints at home.)

Dan, your post got me thinking about taking my neg strips to the supermarket. But then, maybe I'll do a printing session tonight.

Brett, worse yet, I could just be a figment of my own imagination.

But then again, that's all we all are, isn't it? 🙂

Nice shots, iggers! In the "Beer and Rangefinders"--shot w/the Kodak, is that somebody's camera sitting ON the pool table? Yikes!
Looks like you guys had an enjoyable outing!

Dan, do all Dominion stores have this price for processing? I get processing only and all the places I go to charge around $7 (sometimes more) for processing, no prints. It's one of the reasons I don't shoot much colour film.

Thanks. That might just be someone's M4, on the pool table.

I actually got to hold and focus and release the shutters of a couple Leicas. They sure have a nice feel and make a fine sound. But no, that precipice is one I can stay away from ... for now.

BTW, Gene had a very cool small hot shoe mounted meter, a CV product, a VC2 I think its called. Basically the same red light green light / too much / too little / just right metering functionality of a Bessa-R, in a tiny metal box with two wheels - one for aperture and one for shutter speed. Also some very nice auxilliary viewfinders, such as a CVG 25mm that he had mounted on a Zorki 3m, to fo along with his new CV 4/25.

So many cameras (and lenses), so little time (and money.) :>

Dan, it was the original VC I meter. My gear was all second-hand stuff and almost all of it from RFF members: VC meter from Peter (Singapore), Bessa-R from Joe (Edmonton), VC 25/4 from sockeyes (Vancouver), VC 35/1.7 from a guy in Indiana, Zorki from alex-photo and overhauled by Oleg. Wait, the lens hood on the Jupiter-8 was new!! From Gandy 😀

I was hanging out with a great collection of cams and their chauffeurs ...

Thanks. Same cheap color print film indoors and out. In the Bessa-R, I had a roll of 200 ASA Rexall brand (probably Konica), and in the Kodak Signet-35, I had a 36-exposure roll of Fuji 100 that must have been at least 5 years old. Hard to believe that it worked out as well as it did, in the back room of the bar - albeit not far from a skylight.

Nice shots, thanks for sharing. What sort of film were you using for the outdoor shots?

Thanks for the photos! The party I went to with my wife was nothing special... neither of us liked it that much, actually. So I'm glad YOU guys had a great time, and wish even more I could have been there!
